My dad has gotten into long range shooting. He has a 6.5 Creedmoor, but I was looking into getting a 6.5 grendel upper i could slap onto my s&w lower. I would like to get one for less than 400 but the only ones that I could find for that are Bear Creek Arsenal. They are all sold out at the moment. They say that their uppers should give 1 MOA with good ammo and thats plenty accurate for me. Should I wait for BCA to come out with more uppers or should I be looking at a higher priced upper? Does anyone have any recommendations for uppers?

On the cheap I've been very happy with bca's products, tho I haven't used any of their Grendel parts.

My other suggestion would be Radical. I had their 20" Grendel upper and liked it.

Psa did have one for $399.99. I know that an Odin works 20" barrel goes for around $400 with bolt, and a friend put one together that after three fouling shots proceeded to put the rest of the box of hornady ammo into 3/4" at 100. A finished upper with that barrel is more than your target of $400, but it is very accurate and food for thought.

I picked up a 16" Radical upper on sale but have not even taken it out of the box. I plan to use it with a large .308 can for small and medium game in hilly country. I have no illusions about it competing with my 6.5x55mm Savage bolt gun for range or power.

As long as you don't expect it to be a mini-Creedmore you should be happy with it.

PS. Magazine recommendations?

I used c product 10 rounders. They ran fine, even notched the front to get a little more cartridge length.

Take a look at Sanders Armory. Seemed like when I bought my Faxon barreled 6.5 Grendel from them they had some other uppers in that $400 range. Pretty sure they use BCA barrels as their standard. Overall I am VERY satisfied with my $600 complete upper. Their customer service is also top notch. Definitely worth looking into.

I would say your best bet around $500 is Aero. They have the uppers right around $500 and are b y far the best quality around that price point. You would still need to get a bolt. Toolcraft has good ones. I would spend a little more and get something decent

As you may know, an AR chambered in 6.5 Grendel uses all standard 5.56mm AR15 parts except the barrel, bolt, and magazine.

Based on that, if you wanted to “build” your own upper there are a wide variety of parts from many manufacturers available for your build. You can pick and choose to have the rifle you want.

I assembled the rifle shown below with an 18” Faxon barrel and a Brownell’s 6.5 Grendel BCG. Easy peasy...
