"Every time S&W sells a new revolver, someone is voicing their approval of the lock." ... or , at least , tolerance of it.

One would think that disliked as the lock is Smith would hide the damn thing inside the grip so we wouldn't have to look at it.

$826. I can find an older one in excellent condition for less than that.

I purchased a 19-3 (2.5") about 3 years ago for $750. Box, docs and in excellent plus condition. It even came with one of those metal grip inserts but I can't remember the name of those. I guess people collect them as they have been out of business for awhile. They're out there if you look. The problem is they keep going up in price every year. Probably up around $850 now. The one I have is my my favorite to shoot. I have another 6" model 19 I purchased new about 30 years ago. Laser like accuracy. 50 yard clays are easy with a 6" barrel.:D

I find myself in a quandary. I hate the ILS and buy old Smith’s without them. But then I am reluctant to carry them because how hard they are to find.

So i have newer a new 686 plus with locks I CCW just in case so I don’t take a chance on having my 686-4’s end up in police custody.

Slim chance, but I live with it. Sort of like carrying a Glock. I can just go buy another. Not the same pride of ownership as my old ones.

But none of that says anything about how many would be sold without the lock. Just because they sell some with the lock doesn't mean that it's not reducing their sales. It's clear from reading posts on any hand-gun board that there are a LOT of Smith fans who simply will not buy a gun with a "Hillary hole."

Well, it's not just " the hole"....it's the MIM parts, frame-mounted firing pin, two-piece barrels, laser engraving, etc.......all of which may be necessary to meet a price point and make the lawyers happy, but which, added together, turn off most folks who like the older guns. I would use a current production S&W revolver for a carry piece, perhaps, but would never buy more than one for my collection or value it as anything more than a tool.

The only plus I see to the new 19 is it resolves the forcing cone issue- but then the L-frames took care of that along time ago anyway and they are barely any larger.
