Would the position of a red dot sight affect accuracy? Specifically I’m wondering if mounted to the rear closer to your wrist is less accurate than up near the end of the barrel? I know, who’s gonna mount it way forward it would look wrong, but I am thinking of the aiming principle of paying close attention to keeping the front sight centered on your target.

Next question, if a red dot is used, is barrel length really not all that important? If 2 pistols had equally tight barrel to slide fit, red dot mounted conventionally to the rear of the slide, equal in all regards but length, would results be the same?

For example, a Glock 17 vs a 34, or a P229 vs a P226.

#1 Position of the dot has nothing to do with accuracy. The biggest determinant of "accuracy" when shooting any handgun is going to be trigger control anyway.

#2, Barrel length isn't all that important for accuracy, just velocity and recoil. Longer barrel results in more velocity and less recoil due to longer, heavier slide. The dot makes the over-emphasized "sight radius" factor moot.
