Know the gun used by the good guy?

"The only thing that matters is the end ov matter" Genesis P-Orridge. Some people are just curious about that stuff. If it was something like a raven 22, then it'll add to the idea ov shot placement being critical and the whole 'a 22 in the pocket is better than a 45 at home' thing. If it was something like an old revolver or 1911, it'll show that some people still have class. I'd be interested to know the weapons used in these types ov shootings and, even more so, the ammo as well. Unfortunately, the media does not like to report information about guns in scenarios they're not trying to demonize. Good guy shoots bad guy: Gun. Bad guy shoots good guys: AR-15 tactical assault rifle purchased at local gun store; town residents are outraged!

As of my typing this, the identities of the suspect, victims, and the armed instant responder have not yet been released, nor has any speculation on the motive.

I doubt we'll know anything about the gun(s) involved any time soon (though I suspect the BG's gun wasn't an AR-type, or we would have heard about that already!)

Sorry to be a stick in the mud but why does the gun he used matter?
Sticks in the mud are always welcome! I was just curious. Just like what the local PD uses in my neighborhood or what guys on THR use. I am just happy the good guy brought a gun.

I don't think what gun or ammunition is used in successful armed intervention by random civilians matters too much. Too much variability in shooting situations to draw any but the broadest (and already known) conclusions about equipment from single events.

It does matter a bit when it cuts against the media narrative- like the church shooting in Texas where the person intervening also had an AR-15-type rifle.

This was about two miles from my house. There is a cluster of several restaurants there, very busy on any evening, so had this lunatic been able to continue his shooting spree there might have been many more casualties.

The two armed citizens are both in their 30s. They responded independently. One was driving past and retrieved his handgun from his trunk; the other apparently ran to his car and got his pistol. They engaged the shooter at just about the same time from two different angles, and one has been quoted in the media as saying he did not know the other citizen was involved until he saw him closing in on the downed shooter. There is some confusion so far as to whether the shooter fired at one of both of the citizens, but he certainly did ignore several verbal commands to surrender.

The shooter apparently has a serious record of psychosis; he had posted a bunch of videos about how the ducks and geese were agents of Satan following him. Ominously many of the videos were recorded right in the same area where the shootings happened.

Overall an exceptionally well handled intervention that very likely saved lives. The police have been most complimentary, with the spokesman noting that they acted to protect the lives of others which is well within Oklahoma's justified shooting laws, and it is pretty certain that the DA will follow suit. Both men were sent home after interviews

Well, all is well that ends well. And another two points for good guys with guns. Only glaring issue is that they both had to "retrieve their guns" to act.

It's reported that the BG arrived at the restaurant wearing eye and ear protection. :scrutiny:

Evidently, he was not wearing a bullet-resistant vest..

We are not allowed to.be curious?

Good on the two good Samaritans being on the ball and probably saving lives. Unfortunate both had to retrieve the guns from their cars, very glad they had the time to retrieve them. I wonder if after this one or both men will start carrying on their bodies more often.

NO!

Just kidding. Of course curiosity is fine.

I guess I've just seen this type of question lead to a lot of nonsense conclusions brought up by forum folks. If it was a full sized gun, someone will use it to start a soapbox edition about how everyone needs to carry a full size. If it was less than 5 shots fired someone will use it to declare that their j frame is plenty of gun. If it was a 380 or smaller cartridge someone declares that a 22 lr is fine also.

Guess I just had a crappy morning. Like I said, sorry I was a stick in the mud. The longer I carry and the more stories I read the less importance I put on model, and more I put on mindset.
Single examples of SD situations mean little to me anymore because so many factors affect things.

But my mind clearly went down the rabbit hole and the reality is that it was a simple curiosity question.

Everyone please ignore the crab ass in the corner. (Me)

We all get to be crabby in the mornings!

I was just curious as I sometimes carry a mouse gun. Sometimes I carry a full size gun. Sometimes both! I am guessing (which often is wrong) that if the guns were in a trunk they were full size. I am glad we live a country where most of us have the ability to carry. And the variety of carry guns out there has never been better. Enjoy the Memorial day weekend and carry responsibility. I am a grateful American!
