Questions about Uppers and Lowers, and first time buying

Palmetto State Armory has a father's day sale going on now. A complete upper is on sale for $159. You don't need to be 21 to buy the upper.

Watch PSA for sales on their BCG that go as low as $69. Charging handles can be had for less than $25, or your friends may have a stock CH just sitting around. An MBUS rear sight can be had for around $40.

Later when you reach 21 years of age, combine with a PSA complete lower on sale for $129. The whole thing should total less than $450 with no assembly required.

I built my first lower with vice grips to press in roll pins and a pipe wrench.

Most people dont want their guns Bubba'd.

Let's be fair about it...
Okay compare PSA to other lower cost options. Now a days I receive emails daily for ones under 500.00.( I think I got one today for a Delton for 450 from grabagun.)

I guess you didn't see the pic of my build earlier in this thread. :) I'm no bubba.

Lower assembled by pressing in roll pins with vice grips.

Suppressed build with PSA barrel and bolt carrier group and upper.

Del-Ton doesn't put out a bad product, but they aren't offering the same kind of value that PSA is. FN made bolt carrier groups. Nitrided 4150 CMV barrels. Free float M-Lok handguards. Magpul stock and grip. Etc....

I pulled up a Del-Ton on grabagun. $453. 4140 phosphated 1-9 twist carbine length barrel. No free float handguard. Generic m4 handguards and 6 position stock. It's not a bad gun. But it differs significantly in value from the link that I posted earlier for that offering from PSA.

I said earlier in this thread that there is nothing wrong with buying complete the first time. To act like there are no advantages to building is factually inaccurate.

I put a lot of rounds through my builds. :)

Amazing what one can accomplish with some patience huh?

Isn't it though! Anyone who has ever watched me gently press roll pins into place with careful and precisely meted out pressure has never crudely whacked on their lower with a hammer and a punch again. They either pay attention to what I am doing and see how to do it themselves, or they ask me to help with their next lower.

You might find some scratches on my guns, but that's because I use them hard!

Bryson if you decide to build and you need any tools, send me a message. I will ship you whatever you need and you can ship it back to me when you are done. I can walk you through any questions you have via email or on the phone.

Sorry, but vice grips and pipe wrenches make you a bubba. Only thing lacking is a hacksaw... but you might have left that out.. :)
Im sure millions of owners of bubba'd gun owners thought their excrement didn't stink either.

FWIW I prefer higher end guns, so nothing mentioned in this thread is on my radar.. Just giving options for the new young lad.

Years ago building your own made sense, now-a-days not so much with every manufacture in a drought.

Higher end like del-ton.

I guess my Mega Machine monolithic build with LaRue Stealth barrel and JP LMOS carrier and JP single stage trigger is excrement.

You go ahead and keep your factory built rifles. I ain't skeered to built my own.

wrong again.

What do you use your high end guns for? Competition or "just because"?

Generally, I find today's firearms market to favor budget options over pricey when looking at the cost-benefit-analysis.

Today a $400 AR15 will do 90% of what a Daniel Defense will. A $300 Savage Axis can shoot sub MOA and be taken beyond 500 yards. And a Turkish Canik can outshoot an HK for 1/3 the price half the time.

That goes for the OP, don't believe the price-hype in today's market. Expensive doesn't always mean better and you may not need it.

A YETI cooler may be neat, but you don't need one for a tailgate party other than impressing other dudes.
