Up in the mountains shooting a .458 Socom reloads.
Can't remember powder charge but using imr 4227 with Barry's 350gr.
It' super accurate for a .458 50 rounds at 100 yrs all hitting 9x9 steel.
But the unburnt powder is not allowing a few rounds to fully chamber.
I' m using CCI LPM primers.
When shooting a beast like this as accurate as it is tons of fun.
But 1 out of 10 is not seating.
Any thoughts?

Low pressure 4227 can (will) be inefficient... especially w/ shorter barrels.
(1) Try to remember... what load are you running?
(2) Try Lil`Gun.....

Meheavey thinking 16.5 it's published data it's on the can at home just grabbed a few handfuls. I did try lil gun but kicked like a mule. We are volume shooters and 100rnds with my last lil gun load was less then fun

Did try 4198 jus not really accurate.
It is troublesome finding load data especially now that I'm casting and powder coating.

If you can tell me what molds your using I can see if QL has them in the system. It does have most commercial bullets.

Ive used 4227, but not alot of it, and all with jacketed bullets.

I shoot a lot of magnums and have used IMR 4227. I some times have unburned powder using it also. I've used H110 , 2400, LIL'GUN , N105 and Enforcer and haven't had any unburned powder with any of them.

Been on vacation fishing.
The unburnt powder is with Barry's plated 350gr and is 34gr 4227.
I have lil gun 110 and 2400 going to work up some loads next week.
Will report how things work out.

Using a reduced load just to keep recoil down is not the answer. You need to keep the pressure high enough to burn the powder or use a faster powder. If you change powders your rifle may not function.
Your choice of light rifle, heavy bullet, large bore and desire for low recoil in an autoloader may not have an acceptable compromise.

Thats not a light load.

You may need to size your brass a little more than you currently are. I ran into similar issues with some reloads that i thought was bullets being off center, but it turns out i was JUST barely sizing the brass enough, so any fouling, or a case that sprung back a little more than the rest would either fail to chamber completely.

Good luck on your new loads, let me know if theres any quickloads info you want.

For reduced loads I use powders like HS-6 and HS-7. For warmer loads I like H110/296, 1680 (4227 is in this burn rate area) and 2400.

I run the GL-Shock stock on my SOCOM. This stock has a spring to help absorb the recoil and it works very well. Makes the recoil like shooting a shotgun so you get more of a push and not a hammer blow.

Of all the powder I have tried in my 458 they all have a decent amount of unburned powder as it is designed for low pressure but I must say there is no accuracy problems so I am not going to worry about it too much.
