Hello,
I would like to purchase a 1 or 1.25" leather sling for my 94. A straight sling (no cobra), plain leather and of the proper length. I have searched the internet and have found nothing that fits those parameters. Oh and made in the USA also.
What length sling is appropriate for the carbine? The 94 came with the (I guess) Uncle Mike style sling attachments. One on the butt stock and one on the magazine tube an inch forward of the front stock.
Also I was considering a leather lace on recoil pad, I have the black limbsaver and it is quite unattractive although very effective. Any recommendations?
Thanks

Hand made in Montana and the best design Iv'e found. A little pricey, but considering the value well worth it. They are designed to be used with the loop on the forend to steady the shot. But when carrying I like the loop at the bottom. The rough leather slips less on my shoulder.

I bougth a 1 1/4" sling initially, but later bought a 2nd one and went with the 1" sling. I like it much better. If you already have the hardware they sell one without it at a good price.

I've been meaning to buy one of their belts too.

You don't need a recoil pad on a 30-30.

I'm not sure why a conventional leather strap for a Model 94 would in any way be unique to that rifle. Most, if not all, slings are adjustable for size. Like you, apparently, I have an aversion to an unnecessarily bulky and heavy "Cobra" style sling, especially when used to carry a short, light and handy carbine.

My solution for a 94 Win trapper in .357 mag was three long latigo leather strips braided with 8" slack. Tied off to brass rings and hooked to sling attachments. Less than 6oz extra weight, flexible and self adjusting for any carry.

Howdy jmr40,
That is seems to be just what I am looking for. Thank you kindly Sir! There are some good looking slings. What length is appropriate for a Winchester Model 94 Carbine? You may be right on the recoil thing. Shooting from the bench, it is essential for me. But stand and such would probably ok. I will certainly think about it Great info!!!!.

Hello and thank you for your replies! I have moved this thread over to the Accessories section of the forum as I think it is more better! I have seen several slings that are not adjustable, like the Montana slings. So is there not a specific length for the Model 94? Is the GI strap the one that I see used for high power rifle competition? That is complex as I was looking at those today on the internet.

If you go with the Montana sling I'd probably go with standard length. I've had mine several years and didn't know they even offered a long version until I went to the website to provide a link. That wasn't an option when I bought mine.

As to the recoil pad. A 30-30 only generates about 10-12 ft lbs of recoil. But I've always felt the lever action 30-30's seemed to kick harder than the numbers say they should. It is because of the shape of the stock. They all have a lot of drop and the recoil causes the stock to come up and hit the shooters face when shooting from a bench. More modern stocks recoil straight back and are more comfortable from a bench. Shooting off hand is much better with a lever action. Putting a recoil pad on one is probably more mental than real. But sometimes that is part of it. If you truly believe something helps, then it does.

Hey jmr40,
I will use your suggestion on the length. Haven't had a chance to get a full perusal of the site yet. I had a bad experience with a 338 magnum off the bench. You know leaned over into it. Ouch. The 94 is worlds apart but I tend to favor for comfort. My limbsaver is fine for the bench. Outside I can see how the other positions affect me. Should be okay as the 338 was okay standing. My teen age daughter fired it with no problem either....
Cheers

I use original military Swiss K-31 slings on a couple of carbines, as I bought several surplus ones when they could be had cheaply. They are a simple and effective carrying sling and can be used quickly as a shooting aid also. The length would be appropriate for a Win 94. You will need 2 1" loops on your sling studs to attach to the rifle. I know nothing about this specific reproduction, but reviews of some of their other products are positive, and for the price it may be worth checking out. Original military ones of very high quality Swiss manufacture are also available at a higher price. https://www.worldwarsupply.com/cart/Swiss-K31-Schmidt-Rubin-Sling

Neat idea Random 8. Have the swivels. Certainly will consider
Thanks

Having something softer than a hard buttplate pound into my shoulder sure doesn’t seem mental to me.

Hey there cdb1,
I really don't want the investment at this time to have one installed. But one of the lace on, velcro on type might be an inexpensive option.
Cheers

Lucky guy!! I have been looking for a good gunsmith around S. Fl for a while.................
