Eh the dangerously stupid stuff is usually pretty easy to pick out. More importantly as this thread has made painfully clear, “professional” reviews are a business and they have neither the time or resources to dedicate to in depth reviews.Personally, I think the decline of the printed word is beyond sad. Apparently, people would rather get free information from anonymous folks on the internet, which ranges from very good to dangerously stupid, than pay a little for that of a professional. Since when has profit become such an evil concept? People are becoming socialists without even knowing it. Welcome to the world of Google, where everyone has access to free information but people are dumber than they've ever been.
Clint is a good dude. I spent time at TR when it was in Texas. And while you have a point and that does keep some egos away, there are still a lot of BTDT types on the forums (some more than others). The late great Pat Rogers used to post quite often. I think others like Mas Ayoob still lurk and occasionally post. OTOH there are some big names that post too much to the detriment of their reputationsYears ago, on another forum, Clint Smith (look him up) made the mistake of joining, to participate in gun discussions.
He was immediately attacked by the ignorant, the unknowing, the brainless, the arm-chair commandoes, and the video-game players, over statements he was making in efforts to discuss various gun-related things.
"Better" is certainly debatable. I used the term socialist because there is an undercurrent of demonizing profit.I don’t really think it’s necessary to call people socialists just because there are better sources of info that are free.
Professional, as in it's your paid profession to write these articles and books and work within the industry. Big difference between that and someone who does it in their spare time for fun. Stakes and commitment are higher. Your name is attached to everything you write, 180° from the anonymous internet post. And “professional” is pretty dubious. Professional what? Writer?
Initials wouldn't be LAV by any chance? Anyway, you're right, Clint is a good dude, and Pat Rogers almost legendary. I also have respect for guys such as Reitz and Wheat who do nice columns in SWAT ...OTOH there are some big names that post too much to the detriment of their reputations
Lol I didn’t have anyone in particular in mind. I don’t agree with everything he says but I don’t have anything against him.Initials wouldn't be LAV by any chance?
Gotcha. I like that guy, it just seems as though he changes his platform of preference as often as he (presumably) changes his undershorts ...
Ha! What do you mean "anonymous?" My name, ".308 Norma" is attached to all of my internet posts.Your name is attached to everything you write, 180° from the anonymous internet post.
I kind of meant the "experts on the forums, not you, DenisAnd some gun writers do know the difference.
You're reading the wrong articles then. I couldn't count how much money I've spent because of Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, Bob Milek, Ross Seyfried, John Taffin, Brian Pearce, Dennis Adler, Denis Prisbrey and others. Hell, if it doesn't inspire you to own you don't have, shoot something you've never shot, hunt something you've never hunted or do something you've never done, what's the point???Also , I have never been influenced by any gun article to buy a gun.
Coal,
Thanks for the kind words.
