What Make .22 Rifle & Used For?

The Beloit Club is very nice, it's the club that hosts the State Silhouette Shoot.
( I shoot for Daniel Boone )

We'd like you to revisit us on one of our 3rd Saturday morning monthly tournaments, just for fun. No book required. Is Gary N still running your Monday eve for fun Silhouette. I think it was 7 years ago when Dennis and I visited your club with very nice hands free auto setting. lol There is nothing like off hand smallbore competitive rifle shooting.

Not trying to be negative but “accurate” is up to anyone’s definition, without a clarification on what we are talking about.

@jmorris, Here is what I expect for accuracy, sighting in off Sand Bags on a relatively calm day and me, w/o further details[2 five shots]: At 40 meters - inside of a dime, at 60 meters - inside of a nickle, at 77 meters - inside of a quarter, and at 100 meters - inside of a 1/2 dollar. Those coin sizes are my accuracy requirements, for my particular Off Hand discipline, sighting in off sandbags, using Norma TAC-22.
I hope you like my accuracy perspective and sorry for the late reply.

There are a number of rifles out of the box that are capable of putting 5 shots inside 1.2” @ 100 yards under the right conditions some are in this thread but there are also a number of them in here that couldn’t do that on their best day.

If you took your .835” @ 60 requirement and loosened it to 1.2” there are lots of off the shelf .22’s that can do that with ammo they like.

Too funny...... To further Define: Example would be at 40 meters or 43 yds, the holes would be touching or single, but inside the size if a dime. Example.....109 yds not 100 yds....I am under a 1/2 dollar, and if OVER that, it is time to CLEAN barrel. The other 2 distances are eyed the same, shooting off sand bags and me, being inside of those coins, not the exact size of the coins.

@jmorris, do you prefer decimal equivalents or MOA measurements? Have a great day and looks like a great day to do some Off Hand Metallic Silhouette practicing, at our outstanding SB Silhouette range! If you live in our area, you are welcome to join us every Thursday eve for NRA practice and scoring. The 3rd Saturday of the month, we have our NRA Tournaments. Maybe you are accurate enough on the first time with us, to receive a 5 pin?

I've got a CZ 455 varmint in a manners stock with a SWFA 3-15 on it that I use for small game, silhouette, and some informal target shooting and plinking. I've also got a 10/22 LVT that is used for Appleseed shoots. My wife has a 10/22 compact that was her Appleseed rifle.

plinking...informal target shooting with friends...youth sized ones for grandchildren to shoot

Which 10-22 do you like best and how accurate is it? How accurate is the Ruger - Precision Rimfire at 50 yards?

@ifit, I wish I had that Henry, just for plinking every so often at the club range. I once had a new 2008, 39a, and had periodic FTF, FTE, and two gunsmiths were useless. I could have taken it to one of our SASS competitors in a different town, but gave up. I tried different mid grade ammo and finally sold it. I did later learned, around that 2008 period, that there were production/quality issues.

I have the one CZ 452 American, and that is good enough for my one NRA club discipline. Gee, that Golden Boy sure looks nice!

The takedown Lite...shoots 1.5" at 50 yards.

Not having much luck with the Precision Rimfire...10 shot group at 50 yards will have 6-7 shots at 3/8" and then fliers opening group to an inch and some times more. The magazine also does not latch in securely. Will be sending it in to Ruger for evaluation.

What ammo's have you tried?

So the Precision is shooting the same as the Take Down Lite.
What makes you think it's the gun?

Hard to believe your 10/22T doesn't shoot better then 1-1/2" at 50yds.

I've tried the following standard velocity with basically the same results in the Precision RF:
Norma Match-22
Norma TAC-22
CCI Standard Velocity
Elly Subsonic Hollow

The Precision Rimfire vs Takedown Lite:
Precision RF will have a nice tight group with a few fliers ruining the group...the Lite does not produce any tight subgroup. So if the flier situation can be solved I would really like the gun much better.

I'm not sure why you're dragging the 10/22T into this....Picher asked which 10/22 of all my 10/22's I like the best and how accurate was it. I responded I like the Takedown Lite the best and shoot it the most.

So you like the Takedown Lite the best but that doesn't make it the most accurate of your 10/22's, got it, I misread Pinchers question.

One of those ammo's should give good results. I'd still try running a box of Wolf Match / SK+ or mid line Ely before I'd blame the gun. Flier's are tough

Thanks for the tip, but none of them seems to be long-lived when the kids put up to a thousand rounds through them in a matter of days. Even hardened silhouette targets eventually get dented shapeless and currently I have a few old brake discs hanging from chains I've welded on them. I've tried printed paper targets too but once they figured out they could print their own we went through a fresh toner cartridge and a ream of paper in less than a week.

We have a problem.

Doesn’t sound like a problem to me. Sounds like some well raised kids to me. But then again, I may be a little impartial. My dad had the same issues with me.

Every story has a moral, so here is a lesson in .22 RF economics. About five years ago there was an acute shortage of .22 ammo, which we remember well. This shortage was largely due to my younger grandson's determination to consume the world's output of .22 ammo, as evidenced in attached photos. Now, five years later, .22 ammo is once again available in good supply, which, I'm fully convinced, is due to No.2 grandson having shifted his primary concerns to other areas of interest, as attested in final photo. Teeter totter ...the Henry gb is a nice n hefty smooth lever gun, was actually surprised how smooth the action is for a 22lr.

What 22? You asked so I will tell. When I head to the rifle range this 22.cal will alway's go along. And it gets a lot of use at home as well. (Maybe it belongs on the Ag thread but it is 22.cal. So here goes, the Walther LGV.
This spring powered air rifle is Not your Walmart off the Shelf, The build quality and precision and handling is too much to list here.

My LGV is mounted with a Clear ridges scope -A terrific scope for any 22.cal air gun or powder burner. Small and light at only oz. (not pictured) Target shooting and Bench rest.

Also I will also have the first gun I ever shot. My Christmas Gift from my Dad as a young boy. The Marlin MDL 80 (Mounted with a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3-9x40mm Rifle Scope
and beside it my really fun gun the Henry Octagon. (mounted with a Skinner sights, and a Bug Buster Scope over it for quick removal
