I had 5 or 6 brass resellers bookmarked in my iPad. I went to look for some new 357 brass tonight and discovered that only one of the companies is still in business. Even worse, they didn’t have any 357 Sig in stock.

I hate to see these small companies fail.

Yea I think the volume to turn a profit is probably unsustainable. I’m not sure If they go out of business or were just a range that was selling off a few years sweep up.

Gunbroker has absurd amounts. I bought about 2200 rounds of once fired 38 special for $70 recently. I've had good luck there

During the last "big scare" brass was harder to find, and prices were high. Could be that a bunch of small shops opened up because there was a profit to be made, and now that things are quiet again and prices have dropped, they closed shop. They rode the bubble, and that is not a bad thing.

Yeah I agree with Toprudder on this. I had toyed with selling off some of my brass if the other party had stayed in the White house for another term. I will never be able to shoot up all my OF 9MM brass to make it twice fired if I live to be 100 or more as it is at the rate I shoot~2K a month.

Some places stop selling certain calibers because the market is flooded, and they can not
make a profit on it, figuring in equipment, labor, and just plan hassle of dealing with it, so they
scrap it, don't bother with it, sorting it, boxing it, transporting it, etc.
Got enuff brass to last me a long..long time..even .38spl when the police used them years
ago (brass cases)..but let the next big event (scare), come along.... investments....

Toprudder has it. The number of people trying to make money selling scrounged brass 4 years ago... it was a response to a transient market condition.

I purchased a giant box of 6.5 creedmoor brass and sold it off in quantities of 100. Took me three months to sell it all. Funny when I sold it for a set price with free shipping I got no hits. After two weeks I listed it for my original price minus $7 and then charged $7 for shipping, people started buying. Weird, same price, two different methods, one worked and one didn't. I guess we brass buyers are a finicky bunch that doesn't like free shipping. No worried sold it all and kept a bunch for myself as profit.

So I was in the business and I am not out of it. Could be other places were doing the same. I didn't quit my day job.

I've sold brass and it's too big a hassle dealing with the buyers. Some want it cleaned, some want it dirty, some want it sorted by headstamp, some want it for the price of shipping, etc. One guy was adamant that I was going to sell him only 9x19 brass sorted by headstamp, at less than scrap price. I finally told him I'd sort the brass, but I charge $60.00 an hour, and I work really, really slow. Never heard from him again............

I've got 5 five gallon buckets of brass right now ready to go to the recycler. I buy all the brass from our club, take what I want to keep, and scrap the rest. Scrap prices have come up again, so it's less hassle to just scrap it out and be done with it.

Once in awhile, a friend will tell me they need some brass in a certain caliber, so I let them go through what I've got in the recycling buckets and get what they need. Some others have said they wanted some brass, but weren't willing to sort it from all the other brass, so off to the recycler it went.

Hope this helps.

Fred

I buy from Eastcoastreloading. They have processed Sig brass but unprocessed is out of stock.

Your correct, there are those that want it this way others another way. you can't
please them all. A friend sells me 45ACP LP Federal OF for scrap prices + $5
for tape, awaiting more to come available....

When anything firearm related sold for more than it was worth, I had loaned out my brass sorter to two different businesses. They both made good money and kept me in more brass than I have been able to go through since.

Once the $2000 AR’s and $80 P mags were back to $400 & $12 respectively, the market fell out on brass as well.
