Abysmal Customer Service

An $8 RSA and a friendly note from CS is a hell of a lot cheaper than dealing with an angry former customer now crusader who posts on multiple forums all over the internet.

I'm not so sure. How many people do you know who consider Walther CCP a horrible gun that's an imminent AD (not even ND because there's no negligence)? And that crusading is much better founded than crusading by a guy who's too cheap to buy replacement springs. Internet is not as simple as it looks.

While I agree recoil spring is wearable part like tire or oil filter when one buys half plastic crap handgun from most manufacturers they are buying at least two worth of guns. The plastic and small parts in frame appear to be quite cheaply made.

On the other hand the military Colt rail gun i have was very expensive but does not contain any cheaply made pos parts.

It does not contain the MIM parts and plastic MSH the standard rail gun does? That's certainly a nice upgrade

Customer service aside; the spring is captive for convenience of assembly, not for function purposes. You can assemble the gun with the spring loose on the rod and it will function properly and safely.

So wait, the OP is trashing a gun company because they didn't send him a part for free we all agree is a wear part? Why is it when a recoil spring needs to be changed in a $2500 1911 no one get angry?

This is either a troll thread or hit job on FN. Don't feed the trolls!

Look when you buy steel slide/barrel with plastic frame full of stamped parts for $500 you are paying for replacement worth of pistol up front. He is just upset he did not receive free part he already paid for up front.
We 1911 guys are different. Do you happen to know where I can get couple of them two spring sets (it uses two springs one fitting inside another) for my M45A1?

IBTL.
In response to my first reply, really "through" sells the other FN pistols on principle, can't stand to own any FN products. ;) :D

Sorry FN I am through with your firearms.

Through with them as in not buying any more FN; or, through as in selling/trading all the FN pistols on principle and not buying any more.
There are different levels of through.
The groundhog34 and CDW4ME decisions to damn all FN products because groundhog34 couldn't get a free recoil spring assembly is like deciding to quit buying Toyotas because one of the windshield wiper blades failed, and Toyota wouldn't replace it.

I wonder if they'll actually sell their guns? I wonder how much that will cost them? Perhaps it wasn't about the money when it started, but it will be now...

If I wanted another pistol with plastic frame and pile of stamped sheet metal parts I would go with Canik TP9SF. It would not be because someone didn't get part fee from FN but this would result in more cash in my pocket.

Woah,. I initially asked OP a question about whether he was just not going to not buy any more FN or sell the ones he had.
No reply to my question from OP so in my 2nd post in this thread I said really "through" would sell the others. OP said he is "through" with FN, posted same on at least one other forum; he that mad seems like he wouldn't want to own their products. Legitimate question.
I did not criticize FN in any way.
I never said he should get a free recoil spring assembly.
Reading, Walt aint got time fo that?

How about writing clearly? Got time for that?

I read through the first response -- and it was as you say, a question.. But the second comment seemed a bit more obscure. If you had said DIRECTLY what you meant there'd be no way to misinterpret what you meant. Your reply in #36 (above) was so cryptic that it seemed to be YOUR response to the situation, not a restatement of groundhog34's position. I guess you were just characterizing his response. My error. Given my misinterpretation, let me restate it, leaving you out:

I wonder if he'll actually sell his guns? I wonder how much that will cost hm? Perhaps it wasn't, as you suggested, about the money when it started, but it will be now...

Here is the most irritating part of my post missed by all of my haters. Midwest is frequently out of stock although they do have the part in question. The price is $27 plus $7 freight. Total of $34 for a $5 part. They are used to being a government contractor. Charging outrageous prices for replacement part is a sure path to alienate clients.

Who says it is a $5 part?

For instance, look at the pricing for a Glock RSA at Wolff Gunsprings.

have ya seen what an H&K P30 recoil spring assembly costs?

I have no dog in this fight, other than I hate seeing people throw feces all over, especially when they still haven't answered the question of "how many rounds through it?" which has been posed on multiple boards, with no reply that i'm aware of.

I did once awhile back and it was because of being insulted by customer service (principle), not money.

Around 2009/2010 I bought a new Colt Defender, I was on a 1911 kick, already had two Kimber Ultras, Kimber CDP, Colt Lightweight Commander, Colt Government Model, Colt Lightweight Officers - the three Colts were "Enhanced" versions I bought new in the 1990's.
Back to the Defender, it threw brass at my head hard enough to cut skin, I ran a couple hundred rounds through it wearing a bandana over my forehead to prevent more cuts; brass ejection did not improve. I sent it to Colt for repair. After about 10 weeks I got the Defender back and it still threw brass at my forehead just like before. I called Colt customer service and said that the pistol still threw brass at my head; the CS representative blamed my grip. I explained that I had three other lightweight "officers" size 45 pistols, including a Colt Officers, and none of them threw brass at my head, so the problem is not my grip. The CS representative stuck with blaming my grip, she may as well have told me to stick the Defender up my anus.
I was "extremely unhappy" :fire: :cuss: with Colt.
Could I have replaced the extractor or tuned it myself? Yes, but after being blatantly insulted by Colt representative I wanted nothing to do with their products; every time I held a Colt the insult that I'm not griping it correctly :fire: would be remembered.
I sold/traded all 4 Colts, including the ones I'd owned for years that worked correctly; it wasn't about money, it was all about principle - I wanted nothing to do with Colt.
Rest of story: After being "Colt free" for 7 years, 2017 I go into gun store and see new two-tone Delta Elite; my disdain for Colt had faded and I wouldn't mind having a 10mm 1911 - didn't have one. My sense of principle took a beating when I walked out the door with that Delta and if it threw brass at my head or malfunctioned in any way I figured I got what I deserved by breaking my commitment to being "Colt free". Thankfully the Delta worked just fine.

So yea, my question was legitimate, being "through" with them has different levels and may not be permanent.

The first thing to look when buying modern handgun with pile of inexpensive parts is price of spare wearable parts and cost of spare MAGAZINES. Using that system favors Glock and eliminates H&K, FNH, Steyr,......As they say adios amigos!

Perhaps I missed it, I'm going under the presumption this is a fairly newish pistol and the retaining ring came lose on the recoil assembly. Now then something happens to a newish part and that happens in mass manufacturer goods. If so I'd be calling manufacture X if this were happening in 1K rounds maybe 2K. If FN was accommodating to supply the part, great. After that I agree this is a wear item to be replaced by the user. This is a smaller scenario to otherwise get off FN products. We all have a certain limit so FN's reply may be off putting which for some may make-break the users desire to use-keep the product.

Those HK recoil assemblies are $.
