As you all remember about six months ago I did a review on the Hornady Media Sifter. Although I liked some features there were other features that I didn't like. So I gave it a "C" rating. At that time I also mentioned that I had ordered the Rotary Case Tumbler. Well after 10 months on back order I got it yesterday. So today I ran it through my test.

Now I compared it to my F.A.R.T.

The first thing I want to point out are the good things. Because this will not take long.
1. The timer on the system is dead nuts It shut off exactly at 1/2 hr. and at 1 hr.
2. The foot print is excellent It is 14" wide and 11" deep and is only 9 1/2 tall where the F.A.R.T. is 12"x 14"X13"
3 The cap went on and off very easy and not 1 drip.
4. The timer runs up to 8 hrs but what they didn't mention is you can set it to run continuously.

Now for the bad.
1. It says that it is 6 litters when in actuality it is 6 quarts where the F.A.R.T. is 7 litters.
2 The weight limit is only 17 lbs. where the F.A.R.T. is much higher.
3. The rotation of the drum on the Hornady is only about 2/3s of the F.A.R.T.
4. Now the F.A.R.T. has clear end caps and sifter end caps. I use neither but I can see why folks would like them.

Now, at this point I would have given it a "D" rating but with the final test I follower Hornadys instruction to the letter. 5 Lbs. of pins, 3 quarts of water/ cleaning solution, and 5Lbs. of brass. The brass came out perfect. So it did what it was supposed to do. So my final grade is a "C". But the F.A.R.T. I give an "A"

I bought that hornady media separator after you’re review. Haven’t processed any pistol brass since so I can’t say how it works. I’ll let you know when I do. I will say that it seems to be a better quality product than the RCBS unit.....but that’s a pretty low bar

Drainsmith,
What no points for it being red?
(as opposed to the evil blue color of the F.A.R.T)
I would have thought that would have made #1 in the list of good things.:)

Thanks for the info.
I bought the Lyman Cyclone, it's Orange not Red but better than that evil blue;)

DRAINSMITH, is it quieter because it's belt driven? Never seen one and was wondering. Usually the belt driven ones won't handle the weight that the FART does.

Dave
Yes, it is belt driven.

This is the last thing that I needed to make my bench 100% Hornady. Even though I gave my Meda Sifter a grade of "C" it was still an upgrade. I am not so sure on the Case Tumbler. Now, I know that I only do about 200 cases at a time and I know that it will handle it just fine. I still wonder why Hornady just didn't put out the best product that is on the market. I Know that they want to keep cost down but I would have spent a lot more on the "best".
