Kicking off a thread for .357 revolver appreciation.

This is my S&W 686+; it’s my woods gun, truck gun, back of the road gun, end of the line gun. I learned to reload for it, use it as the primary trainer for new shooters (start it with .38’s), and trust it fully for a wide range of usage.

All of these are .357's, even though only two are magnums :)

How do you like that Kimber? I’ve eyed them for quite a bit, and have heard some beautiful words on fit and finish.
I absolutely love it. It is everything that I want in a combat .357.

Since the picture was taken I have gotten the Crimson Trace Laser Grips, but the jury is still out on them. The stock grips fit my hand better, and the activation button on the laser is a bit oddly placed for my grip.

My first handgun purchase was a Taurus model 66 .357mag. Newly married, so price was major factor and Taurus was cheap ($165 IIRC, circa 1985). Turned out to be a great shooter and still one of my favorites to take out to play! Also have the 8 shot version plus a Dan Wesson and Ruger Vaquero in .357.
That’s a world of a steal!

I have a 4" M686-2 and my only complaint is it seems to have a slow barrel. I always bring it to the range and it's extremely accurate with both .38 Special and .357 Magnum ammo of my making.

The first handgun I purchased was a 357. A Model 19 to be exact. No idea the dash number, I knew nothing of such things in those days, but if I had to guess it was a -4. I've owned 357's from Smith and Wesson, Colt, Ruger, and Taurus.

These days, it's all Smith & Wesson.

Model 27-2, 4" barrel.

Model 19-9, 4.2" barrel

Modell 19-4, 4" barrel.

Model 66-1, 4" barrel.

As you can see, I still kinda favor the K-frame 357 with a 4" barrel.

I see yours is the compensated model just like mine. My Taurus 669 has been my woods knock around gun going on 25 years.
I woukd say that i have had mine that long too. It came out of the box with the sweetest 4lb trigger you ever felt. I bought it for illinois 1st handgun deer season.
I csn think of 4 deer for sure that i took with my 669. Maybe more.
That compensator is so loud that every time i shoot it ,my hat spins around backwards and my drawers fall down around my ankles.

Over the past 50 years or so, I've owned about a dozen 357's. Colt S&W and Ruger mostly. Hadn't had one in the last couple of years. Visit to my LGS found this little sweetheart for under 300 OTD

I'll play. I've had a few.

index.php

A 6" 686-6 7 shot.

index.php

A 4" 681-2. Phenomenal trigger I ran it for IDPA a few times. Even shot a few stages with some full power 140gr H110 loads.

index.php

A 4" 627 Pro up front. Trigger was excellent! Until I got to the range and found it was so light because the mainspring strain screw was backed out. Plenty of light strikes until I tightened it down and found it to be a pretty average trigger. Didn't really like moon clips with 38/357's. Great in 45acp though!

I ran this 4" M19-3 in IDPA abunch once upon a time. The slimmed down Magna stocks with a T-grip on a SQ butt might be my favorite grip set up.

Speaking of M19's, here's a pair of -5 snubs. I've got the box and papers for the one with the brass grip adapter.

index.php

Here's some more gratuitous M19 porn. A 4" -3, the two 2&3/4" and 6" guns are both -5's.

And finally...
index.php

A 4" 686-0 with the absolute best trigger I've felt on a revolver. It's a tie between this and my 4" M19-3 as to which is my all time favorite handgun.

I'm pretty sure that's all of them.

Edit: forgot the 4&5/8ths Blackhawk!

Second edit: Does a 357 Max rifle count since it can shoot 357Mag too?

How do you like those G10 RB combats? I've always liked the looks of those.

Depends on the Gun.
I also have sets for the Nframes and I don’t like them as much on those.

On that L frame 686 I love them. The ones on the square butt K frame 66 transformed the Gun for me. As much as I like those old wood coke bottle grips aesthetically they don’t fit me at all. The VZs are quite a bit smaller and are a perfect fit for me.

On the 627s they just don’t feel chunky enough for the extra size and weight so I went back to the stock wood grips.
