Guns you paid way too much for, but don't regret it

Hello Dain Bramage:

"I don't know where the Model 87 falls in the Cheetah value hierarchy, but a local dealer has a new Model 81 in .32 ACP for $795."

It was back in 2011 that the 87 Cheetah was $666.66,,,
Right now Buds Gun Shop has a price of $828.00.

I had sold my Folded Slide Sig P220. Had it for years. Couldn't stand it and bought one off Gun Broker for $650.00. But I'm happy as a clam.

Enfield No. 2 Mk 1, 1939, with hammer spur. I had not seen one for some time. Paid about $125.00 over. However, it's mine now.

I had a Webley Mk VI many years ago that I bought mail order from Kleins in Chicago. I had to sign a form saying I was 18. I was 12. The gun was a 455. It was too much for a 12 year old and I dented my forehead with the first shot and traded it off for a .22 pistol and some cash on my part. I think I paid $12 for the gun. That was too much given the one shot I took with it. I guess this doesn't fit the thread, but your post reminded me of a gun I had forgotten I owned.

Mine was a process. I bought a brand new Springfield G.I. 1911. Then I started buying Ed Brown and Wilson Combat parts. Then I boxed it all up and mailed it to a gunsmith halfway across the country. Wrote him a rather healthy check. But he did good work. It's my favorite pistol. Cost me more than a comparable "off the shelf" pistol would cost, but it's exactly what I want and made with high-quality parts. Unfortunately, I believe the smith has retired.

Bought this German Sig 226 in Dec.1994. This was right after the Assault Weapons Ban passed which meant no more hi-cap mags and gun prices were spiking upwards. I paid $690 for this Sig. But adjusting for inflation, that would be $1173 in today's dollars. It's still new in the box and has never been fired (except by Sig). Will I ever shoot it? Probably not....it's my favorite safe queen.

I guess it how do we define paying way too much? Stupid decision on something that can be had for less or just paying a lot for something you want?

I have spent thousands on very nice firearms and spent thousands on firearms that are actually pretty crummy from a precision standpoint but because our Government passed the “firearm owners protection act” the 19th of May in 1986, they have a value because they are rare.

Took a $$ chance on a '16 stainless walnut stock, fluted CDL R700,30'06. Went against the grain on it,everything you read on big green going downhill.Put a silver VXII 3-9X40 on it. It is a tackdriver, won't even post group sizes cause folks wouldn't believe it.

It is a blue bird day gun though.Just too durn pretty to be draggin it out in the rain, haha.

Remington made great rifles one just has to pick wheat from chaff. Couple examples are 700 Mountain rifle made on short action in 7-08, African Plains Rifle in .300 or .338 magnums, 700 Classic .35 Whelen, reissue of Vietnam era sniper rifle bull barrel walnut stock with oversize sling swivels and checkered aluminum butt plate,....

I paid too much for my DSA FAL (around $1,800, as I recall). But I like it. I like it a lot better than my PTR 91 (H&K clone), which cost a lot less. (I paid too much for the PTR too.)

When the Federal so-called AWB expired in 2004 I was looking forward to getting an AR15, but Massachusetts immediately enacted the same stupidity into state law.
However there was a provision in the law that allowed an AR with the evil features to be sold and possessed if it had been legally owned in the Commonwealth prior to 1994.
After two years searching I found a mint 1975 Colt SP1 with 2 20rd and 2 30rd magazines at my local gun store. I paid way too much for it...$1200...but it was an absolute seller's market.
Since I installed an ALG trigger group it has become a decent shooter and a lot of fun, and I've never regretted buying it.
Especially since Massachusetts outlawed all AR sales last year.

Steyr Scout and Steyr Scout Cooper model. Both .308's are fairly light and shoot extremely well at $2400 ea. (that's pretty high for me). On the other side of the coin, I got this like new Davidsons model 29 3" from eBay when they were first starting out for $375 back in the day and it was a steal. I got it and two Taurus snub .357 mags (without key) Right after that, Ebay stopped selling firearms. My instructor can put 6 shots inside a quarter at 25 yds:

I think Classic Sigs are expensive, but it doesn't stop me from buying them.
Amen!

My Luger. Paid a grand- its a reworked Artillery model, now with a 4" barrel and a very nice blue/polish job. Some parts left in the white. Its shiny and works perfectly, I'm happy with the price because it's mine.

My Universal carbine. Paid $600 and then sank another $100 into a GI trigger housing, but it is like new, gorgeous, and shoots 1" groups at 50yds no problem. Would do it again today without hesitation.

My '67 commemorative Colt 1911. Paid an even $1000, but it was LNIB, unfired, and has all the WW1 features which I find neato. No regrets at all.:) TheMeuseArgonne.jpg

ZB.26 (semi-auto only) that I bought for a little too much money for a gun I shoot twice a year.

But still, just having it standing on a cabinet in the hallway makes it the pretties piece of art I could get for the money.

Reading this thread I thought I haven't ever paid way too much for any of my guns, but then I started tallying up what I have into my Sistema 1911.

DGFM-FMAP Argentine 1911 $400
NOS Colt Barrel and bushing $120
Black Ceracoate $150
Trigger job $90
Grips $50
Night sights $160
Springs $20
Extra Mags $150

So, over 1k into a shooter, but it took 6 years to spend it. Probably too much, but worth it 20180913_220930.jpg

Why do you always have stuff from my "I want" list? Lucky guy over here!! (Luger P08 is on my bucket list for sure.)

SIG SP 47/8 in 9mm with no accessories, traded for two ounces of placer gold that I'd panned up in southern Oregon.
The price was actually pretty good, as gold had fallen to around $400 per ounce at the time (1981).
My problem was that I only had it for two months before my uncle stole and sold it for booze - along with my dad's machinist tools and whatever else was loose.
