I found a local S&W 296 44 Special Airweight revolver I'm interested in. Anyone here have one or any experience with the 296?

Thinking it would make a good BUG for my 69 :)

Carried and shot one for many years. Great belly gun. Terrible recoil! You have to embrace the ugliness. It has a cousin, the 242, which is a 7 shot .38 special.

Centennial L frame!

Never had an issue with ours.

Would favor the 696 all said and done for shooting.

Would buy and carry without hesitation if the price were right.

I too caried one for years. I found the Stainless .44 Charter Bulldog better all around and smaller so I sold it.

If it is in excellent condition, it is not a bad price IMHO. They go for much more and yours has the case and lock. I'd check timing, forcing cone, top strap, and all the good stuff. Special attention to the titanium cylinder - general condition, wear and tear, anything weird about it kills the sale.

Looks like a cool gun. Depending on how you carry, perhaps a longer grip would help with recoil, if that becomes an issue.
