Ruger 22/45 Lite Issue

Maybe a minor non-issue

Got a new 22/45 this week. Intend for this to be iron sighted (fiber optic) to use in Rimfire Challenge and other local .22lr matches. Haven't fire a round yet, but putting it through it's paces on bench and the Bolt Stop Thumb Release became in-operative (loose).

Turns out the Bolt Stop Stud (part 10) is press fit into the Bolt Stop (9) and had worked it's way out.
Easy enough to push the Trigger Pin just enough to release the Bolt Stop and then using my vise press it back in place. Reassembled and all is fine.

Anyone else have this problem? NOTE: The other MK IVs (non-Lite) seem to have a one piece (#7) Bolt Stop and only the LITE seems to have this press fit Stud.

THANKS RUGER FOR DOING IT AGAIN. Just when I start gaining confidence in Ruger they do this.

YES YES. I should have read more carefully. YES YES. I'm the last one on this board if not the whole world to figure this out. Duh.

Mark III 22/45 magazines won't fit in a Mark IV 22/45. BUT THE REASON IS STUPID.

Here's a picture of the magazines and the guns. All Ruger had to do was cut out the little notch in the back-bottom of the grip. I see a little Dremel and file work tonight. I could grind off the rear of all my MKIII mags but I'll just "fix" the MK IV and be done with it.

Problem solved this afternoon. A selection of files and some patience. Now all Mk III and Mk IV magazines will fit in either model.

Tested this mod today at the range and it works.

Loaded 6 MK III Magazines with 10rnds each. Loaded one round in the chamber then put the Mk III magazine into the gun. It seated well and stayed seated. All 11 rounds fired without a problem. NO FTF, or FTE. Magazine drops out smartly when the mag release is pushed. Bolt hold-open works as it should.

So I proclaim this modification a success. My Mk IV 22/45 now accepts Mk III magazines.

Went to the range today and wanted to do a 25yd sight-in on my two 22/45s. The Burris Fast Fire one went well, but then I got to the iron sighted Mk IV. Shot a little low and to the left. Got out the handy, dandy flat head, adjusting screwdriver and cranked in a couple of clicks right. NO PROBLEM.



Then I went to the top to crank in a little UP. ARGH-H-H-H-H-H. NO I DON'T CARRY a 1/16" wrench with me. How hard would it have been to put a slotted screw in this assembly? Huh? Come on? And it's not mentioned in the instruction booklet either.

The 22/45 is a fine gun. Lots of accessories. Lots of after market upgrades. And with the MK IV it has become very easy to field strip.

It's just these little things that drive me up the wall.

I swore off Ruger back when neither the 10/22 nor the Mini-14 could hit the side of a barn, from inside the barn, And when Bill was supporting the 10 round magazine limit. Things have changed. Ruger makes magazines that accept more than 10 rounds. Accuracy has improved greatly across the board. Ruger is supporting the Rimfire Challenge. I decided to go with Ruger for my .22 needs. They're great guns.

It's just these little things that drive me up the wall. (Did I say that already?)
