Is there anyone out there who can/has done a side by side comparison? I have a Comp-Tac Spartan that is beginning to show the wear and needs to be replaced. It's six or seven years old and has been a good holster for that time. I've sort of been shopping and find many great reviews for Crossbreed. There is only about ten dollars difference in price between another Spartan and a Crossbreed Supertuck and the only thing I find different in the descriptions is that Crossbreed uses metal belt clips as opposed to plastic on the Com-Tac. The pistol is a Glock 29 and although I favor a nylon belt, I regularly switch between nylon and leather.

I'd like to keep this discussion about the two I mentioned but if there is something you've really got to say I guess I can't stop you....

I prefer a holster that covers the full length of the slide. Which the Crossbreed does not do. Keeps the front sight from catching on things and either fouling your draw or getting damaged if you are still using the plastic stock Glock sights.

What is worn on your Spartan? I recently had to get a new kydex shell for mine, but the leather and clips are still good after many years.

The observation about covering the whole slide is a good one. I've been meaning to replace the factory sights on that pistol but haven't got around to it yet.... As far as wear on the holster, it sounds like you had the same issue I have. The kydex has started to split where it meets the leather. Also I noticed a screw is missing at the bottom end of the shell where it covers the trigger guard. I reckon I could easily just replace what needs it and be on my way. I am a little leery of getting new leather as what I have is in good shape.

I have a CBST and have had it quite a few years. It is used with a G26 and Trijicon night sites and I haven't had any issues with the open end of the holster or the holster itself. That being said, and I know you want to keep it to these two brands, but when I go to replace mine, I am also going to consider the Black Arch brand with their breathable backer. I'm in San Antonio, TX and it's hot and humid here for about 8 months out of the year and think this holster would be cooler, especially in the Summer. It's the same price and have heard good things about their quality.

T.... As far as wear on the holster, it sounds like you had the same issue I have. The kydex has started to split where it meets the leather.
Do you wear this holster at 3:00 (9:00 for lefty)?

This is a common issue with hybrid holsters when the user tries to wrap the holster around the hip. The leather will bend, but the kydex won't and the kydex ends up breaking. Hybrids are really designed for wear aft of 3:30, more like 4:00 - 4:30 range where you can find a larger flat spot on your body that doesn't require the kydex to bend.
