What great deals have you found on Gunbroker?

Got a brand new Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70 for $700 shipped . Someone forgot to put reserve on it

I have 6 pistols and 1 22LR, all of which were found on either Gun Broker or Armslist. They range from 2 Springfield XD's, 2 EAA Witness a Taurus PT92C and a S&W EZ 308. The S&W was picked up brand new for $300.00+ $40.00 for shipping and FFL fees. Each one was purchased for well under the local market price including shipping and FFL fees. Also 3 of these were New when purchased and 4 were BIN offers.

A 1924 16 gauge Browning Auto-5 in new condition. The ad said it was a ‘50’s gun and they didn’t correct it even after I told them. I was the only bidder.

$800, but I wouldn’t take $2000 for it.

A number of years ago I picked up a 4" S&W M-66 no-dash for, I believe, $235. I don't remember how I did the search (maybe S&W?), but IIRC it was labeled Smith & Wessom so it probably escaped some people's search criteria. It was probably worth $300-400 at the time, maybe a bit more now, but I do think it would be one of the last guns I'll sell.
Also picked up a couple of Scandium S&Ws at decent prices (no fun at all, and they now live elsewhere) and I believe, an older (70s?) Rem M700 in 30-06 with really nice grain pattern in the stock. Don't remember the exact price but I think it was $400-ish. Again, I still have it and have no plan on changing that.
All this was a few years back...these days there are a lot of eyes out there, so it may be more challenging to find a deal. But there are probably a lot more auctions these days too, so maybe it all balances out.

Looking over my firearms index, I see that I have acquired at least 26 firearms via Gunbroker since 2001.

Perhaps the best was an Oct'05 find, a Remington Model of 1917 that has not been rebuilt and may be an untouched example of the rifle. A nice lady was selling-off her deceased husband's small collection and no one else bid, probably because of her zero sales. I took the time to trade some emails with her and decided that she was OK.

I believe that is just my local area and that everything is inflated to Bass Pro Shop prices. I couldn't even tell you where the nearest pawn shop is. Even the gun shows are very high.

I’ve found guns on GB that were bought for a lot less than the used guns I’ve seen at local stores.

A Rem 1100 LW 20 for $245.00. It had some field use so it’s not pristine, but it was just what I wanted. The rings were installed backwards so it jammed when I first fired it...I think the seller thought it was a lemon so it went cheap. New rings, properly installed, and it’s been 100% for me.

A misused and rusty Mk I that I paid less than 90 bucks for shipped. It required bead blasting and Cerakote to make it presentable, new 18 dollar grips and all new springs from Ruger (free) to make it a really sweet gun.

Picked up a brand new 686+ 4” many years ago from a gun dealer in Iowa shipped to me in Ca for less than my good sized LGS could get it for me wholesale.

A Dan Wesson 15 complete sans barrel/shroud for $225.00 two years ago. I had an EWK 3” VH barrel/shroud already, so it’s complete. This gun is a partner for my pistol pac DW 15 (2-4-6-8 VH) that I got for $775.00 about 16 years ago.

Deals are out there, you just have to have a target and keep looking.

I bought a brand new Benelli M2 field (26" barrel) to convert to a 3-gun shotgun for less than $1000, including shipping.

Patience, timing and luck are all involved in the good deals.

Like many others, I see a lot of guns go through for significantly more than they can be purchased from a LGS or an established vendor. I start by checking pricing on gun.deals. Once I have established the gun.deals prices as a baseline, I then watch gunbroker.

As many here express, for some guns there are not good deals on gunbroker. For others it is hit or miss. I got my Kimber Micro for a bit under $400. It just took a month or so of careful watching. There are a lot that are overpriced (compared to prices on gn.deals or LGS); however, most of them never sell and are just relisted at the end of the auction. I can see how a LGS could do that and hope that someone will be willing to pay the high price.

I also recently got a Leupold scope I wanted for well under list. The main reason I went to gunbroker is that I wanted a gloss finish, to match my rifle. The current production scope is matte and the custom shop price for gloss is more than I want to spend. So, the lower price, on the scope, was a a bonus compared to getting what I want.

As so many here say, patience is the issue.

Aside from guns, when I purchased my 1st 45acp I needed brass and was able to find it on GB. The seller was one located right here in Wisconsin and I had purchased from him previously. Paid 3c a pc. for all cleaned and sorted brass and was very pleased with it.

I also watch Armslist and use the search my state function and so far have bought 2 thru that site. Both in-person transactions and what I thought were very good deals.

I searched every gun shop and gun show for miles, looking for the right SAA . I never found it.

Then I went on GB and found the perfect gun at the same price I would have paid locally.

GB has guns that I would never see for sale anywhere else. That's what I love about GB.

I got a Springfield Armory stainless 1911 with a bunch of extras NIB for $560 last year. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I don't use GB looking for "deals". Generic type guns I can buy anywhere, and don't need the hassle of GB purchases. What I DO look for are guns that are hard, if not impossible, to find locally.

My thing with GB is, I was under the impression that an auction with "No reserve" meant if someone offers $1 dollar, then that's what you get. But GB allows a seller to set a bottom line price, usually the actual cost of the gun as what they will accept, and still state "No reserve." Their right to do so, I just thought it strange.

The real difference is that with a reserve price auction you’re shooting at a hidden target. The seller has set a minimum but you don’t know what it is. When someone sets a relatively high first bid, if you’re the only one who places that bid then you win. You already know the lowest price they will accept.

Those $1.00 or penny auctions can be a huge loser for the seller.
I sold an old Crosman 760. Started it out at a penny
I misspelled Crosman, put down Crossman. A guy bid on it within an hour. Once a bid is on the Gun you can’t change anything in the title or description
You can add information in a separate section
Sold for a penny. I put $10 shipping. Lost big on that one. Guy was in a town 40 miles away. Wanted the to drive 1/2 way to avoid the shipping charges. Can’t even start my truck and get put it in gear for a penny. Lol

When I want something I almost always check gun broker in the process. You never know. I’ve bought several 1911’s for well under their value. The best deal I’ve got was a S&W 1911 converted to a race gun for $550. Some one must have just wanted it gone.
