Powder choice

Why not try them all and see which works best for you?
Five different propellants and premium bullets.

Rather than spending the time and money loading & testing 5 different "ladders" with premium bullets in order to determine your best propellant and load, it is wise to inquire of others in a place like this regarding what they have found to work for them.

The responses may help you to narrow the choices and arrive at an acceptable load for your needs at a lower cost in both money & time. :)

They still make the 185 JHP. It's very popular with Bullseye shooters, and is one of the most accurate bullets around, so I doubt they'll get rid of it.

Thanks, I realized as per your link they lumped them in with the custom competition set which were mostly rifle bullets, to me that seemed a little odd, I was expecting them in the sporting handgun category.

...also I did not notice muzzle flash the prior week at an indoor range though I have not found Uniques flash objectionable. I've been shooting Unique a long time with great results and am not going to abandon it for CFE just yet,

I used to say that... As I mentioned previously, I've been loading Unique in 45ACP for about 30 years, but 230grn for a 5" 1911. I have moved more towards 4" 1911's, and my most recent pick was an alloy-framed 4" Kimber Pro Carry. My standard load of 6.5grn Unique and a 230grn bullet cracks the hand pretty well, so I dropped down to a 200grn bullet with the same charge... that's when I noticed the muzzle flash. The flash doesn't bother me, per se, but it's telling me that it's not the best powder choice for that bullet combo.
