I'm seriously lacking in willpower when it comes to guns. A couple or three weeks ago I stopped by one of the local gunshops just to chew the fat with the owner. I didn't have a thing in mind but seeing how he and his wife were getting along as he has heart problems and his wife is a cancer survivor. We've all know each other for many years and are friends.

Of course I had to look over his stock of guns and there was one that sort of caught my eye. It was a stubby little bolt action 22 in a camo stock. It turned out to be a Savage MK II named the Gator. It appeared new but the tag said used although it appeared to have been shot very little. Not a mark on it except a slight amount of bluing loss on the bolt sleeve where it rotates as you work the action. Had a nice price too.

So we finished our visit and away I went. That little rifle kept popping into my mind and I finally looked it up on Savage's website to see it's particulars. Of course I had no plan to buy it, just wanted to know what it was.

The little devil that resides in my head and likes guns kept on poking me with a sharp fingernail and reminding me about it and the things I could do with it. Guys, I resisted mighty. I wore out one arm twisting the other to keep me away from that gunshop. Sadly to say the little devil won out and now I own a slightly used Savage 22 Gator as of last Saturday afternoon. I stuck a spare Cabela's 3 X12 17 hmr scope on it and am waiting on the wind to settle down some to go get it sighted in and see what it will do. I know the scope isn't set up as designed for 22 LR but I'll make do.

PS: he made me a nicer price. I just couldn't resist anymore. Both arms were worn out. I barely had strength enough left in them to carry it to the jeep to take it home.

Nothing "sad" about that. Congratulations!:)
I never struggle nearly that long when I run across a gun for sale that strikes my fancy. I can almost always imagine a reason/use for it within a day or two.;)

The Savage Mk2 is a fine budget rifle. Enjoy!

I'm having the same issue. Planning on getting a 9mm AR in December and now 9mm handguns are cavorting in my head. I've been a .45ACP kind of guy for decades. Specifically when launched from a 1911.

I'm leaning toward a Springfield XD.

Darn those little devils on our shoulders!

I hear ya. I can usually resist....unless it catches my eye and than I handle it. Which is Everytime :uhoh:. Resistance is futile.

Sometimes it will take a day or so ,but I usually have already made the decision to buy it. I'll try to talk myself out of it, but I can usually come up with a convincing enough reason to justify it.

So I've come to the conclusion that if I don't pick it up I prolly won't buy it ....

The Troy Landry signature model up and bit me a couple years ago. It really likes the Swamp People packs of CCI mini-mags, and it's all good clean fun! Sometimes something a little off the beaten track is just what we need.

Lately I have felt like an alcoholic forcing myself to drive past a bar every time I see a gun store. The addiction is real. I overspent recently on gun stuff so its just best to pass on by for now. Damn those little devils.

Without pictures, it didn't happen. :D

I've already mentioned in another thread that I'm too dumb to post pictures. Maybe my 10 year old great grand daughter could show me how. Or I might corral my computer geek son into doing it. To be honest by the time I managed to get either of them interested we would all have forgotten this thread anyway. :D

I've owned a MK II now for several years. It's very accurate with the right ammo and not real slouchy with the other stuff. It will hang with the CZ's over at the silhouette range with out any problem. That was a big part of the reason I wanted this one plus it's silencer ready. I don't know if I am though but it's kind of interesting. That's how I get in trouble. Finding something interesting.

Although technically an addiction.....it's a nice addiction !

Besides , by buying the Gator you are helping your friend with his business...he's making some needed income. What's wrong with helping a friend ...Not a thing !

You are such a great guy...ATTABOY !

I have ended up on the Ramen Noodle and PBJ sandwich diet for extended periods several times over the years due to "an unbelievable firearm deal". Believe me it was worth every penny I spent each time when years later I partook of the wild game harvested with each of them.:) The reasoning these days is "I was going to go on a diet anyway" might as well reward myself.:p

I was browsing my LGS and ran across an UZi 9mm for $2k and a Marlin Camp9 Carbine for $650........both guns are pretty rare to find in a gun shop these days. I wanted a 9mm carbine for a long while, so I bought the marlin, told my wife , she was lucky I didn't buy the UZI...or the mortgage would not get paid this month!

The struggle is real, brother. My favorite shop for finding treasures is in the next town down the road-- maybe fifteen miles away, close to a half hour due to traffic. I've been known to go there for some bullets or powder or some such, see something interesting, go home, become overwhelmed by the Sirens' call, and then drive back to get whatever it was. I've done that several times. I've learned my lesson-- the last time, a few days ago, I just bought it without the intervening drive, thus saving gas! Plus, the hour I saved can be used for reloading.

I'm a sucker for old revolvers, so much so that the only way I can avoid buying them is if I don't go in a likely shop in the first place. It's a good thing that the two most old-revolver-friendly shops hereabouts don't have websites, or I'd need a bigger house to keep the guns in.

The struggle is real, same thing happened to me with a HandiRifle in .243. Since I can no longer shoot my fun guns in large calibers I went and bought one off the used rack for half price. Its hard to turn down a good truck gun that costs less than my last oil change.

I clear my mind by browsing gunbroker at night. I have been known to bid on things and forget about them thinking I wouldn’t come close to winning. Some I “win” but am below reserve. Others I get blown out of the water. I have only won 1 auction, but I have been feverishly close on many, and would have no reason other than to say that it looks like fun. Usually revolvers or classic pocket pistols, but here lately I have been watching rimfires and bolt shotguns.

Far better than my college days of heavy drinking and eBay motorcycle bids. Luckily I never won one of those. The “cheapskate” angel must be holding the “buy them all” demon at bay...possibly with a bolt action shotgun.
