I've read that all the slides are fully interchangeable between XDm models, would it be possible to put a 4.5 10mm slide on a compact XDm frame? This seems like it would make a very nice backcountry CC.

I'd love this in their compact version, but I don't know that changing slides would matter. The only 10mm magazine they have is the full size one so changing the frame won't reduce the length of the grip. I'm also not sure whether the 10mm magazine will fit in another caliber's frame. I did ask them today about a compact version, but they don't know of plans to release one yet.

My understanding is the mags are all interchangeable, 10mm and 45ACP have an OAL within a half of a mm of one another, so I'm assuming they would also interchange.

I would suspect that the feed lips on a 45 mag could be placed in a vice for a while, or that 40 mags will actually hold 10mm, if perhaps with the follower changed.

Though that would need some testing for reliability.

Perhaps you could try loading 10mm rounds into a 45 cal XDm magazine. If they are retained it could work. Honestly though, if I need a gun for self defense, I have no interest in bubba modifications. If you want a more compact 10mm try a G29, or wait to see if SA comes out with a 3.8. It wouldn't surprise me to see one.

I just tried a 10mm snap cap in a 45 acp XDs magazine and it seemed to fit and retain fine.

I called SA out of curiosity. All they could tell me is that they haven't tested them that way and don't know if it would work or not. I'd be more inclined to try something like that for a range gun, but as 460Shooter mentioned for a woods gun, which is what I'm buying it for, I prefer to leave it as is.

I wanted a 10mm XD, but got tired of waiting for it and bought a G20. The only 10mm XD I’d be interested in now would be if they offer it in a subcompact.

When I owned a Mech Tech CCU in 10mm I would occasionally load 45 magazines and they would work. This was a 1911 platform.

Sportsman Outdoors has them in stock already for $549.99. SA also has a promotion where they offer 3 more magazines and a range bag. I ordered one and should have it in 1 to 2 weeks as shipping times are 3 to 7 days. Having owned a number of XDM's I have a good idea of what to expect. It stood be reliable and a decent shooter. The main unknown is how it handles the recoil of full power loads.

Just ordered one. I will call them first thing tomorrow and see if they are truly in stock or if they are on backorder.

Their website said they were in stock and ready to ship. If they’re taking backorders I’ll cancel and wait for a local LGS.

Edit: I checked my order status and it states it's getting ready to ship. I also looked to see how they listed guns they didn't have in stock. They state it's not in stock, so I'm assuming the SA is in stock.

I would trust the site a bit more if it listed products as backordered (and maybe it does somewhere). My fear is that it is showing in stock because they don't have an option for pre order or something similar in their system. It just seems odd that they have them in stock on day 2 following the announcement and no one else does. You would think at least some of the bigger outfits (Davidson's or Buds for example) would have also gotten shipments in. My order is in though and I'll just have to follow up in the morning.

I’m calling in the morning as well. It would be misleading if they stated it’s in stock and ready to ship and they don’t have it.

I did. I though it would be better suited for carrying than the 5 inch model. Their website lists it as their #1 seller, with the 5 inch version being #2. SA may have a hit on their hands.
I'm debating which I want more. I have a 5" Sig in 10mm so both lengths appeal to me. I'm thinking I'll go with the 5.25 because I load my own ammo. An adjustable sight would benefit a variety of bullet weights.

I went with the 4.5 version. I already have 2 long barrel 10mm guns (S&W 610 and AMT Javelina). I figure I can put the 4.5 on my belt easily enough if I need or want to but it should also be relatively easy to shoot at the range with the combat sights. I also recently acquired an XDm 5.25 in 9mm so that helped push me toward the smaller version just to have something different.

I went with the 4.5 inch barrel as it’s long enough to shoot well, but when we’re on vacation doing things like kayaking on a lake, bike riding, etc. it’ll carry easier for me than the longer barrel. If I wasn’t going to carry it I’d go with the 5 inch barrel.

Makes sense. The majority of my outdoor recreation involves day hiking. Some of them are long hikes but if you're on your feet a big gun is fine for carry.

I just spoke with them, and they do have them in stock. They're aware that they're one of the few, if not only ones who physically have them already.

Guess, I'm buying another 10mm pistol. Not into Glocks, the 5.25" looks like it would be good for hiking and camping.

The XDm I shot had a grip angle close to 1911's. For me, that's a plus.

I assume this gun can be holstered in those meant for the .45 ACP XDm. Is that true? Will be looking for a Kydex IWB holster.

I am going to get the 5”. I have the XD Tactical in 45 and 9mm. Both are tack drivers

I've said for years that if SA came out with a XD series in 10mm I'd get one. Now I just need to figure out how to talk my wife into letting me get it. I'm going to go for the 5.25" barrel model.

I went back and checked the site. They now show both pistols with a "Notify me" tag below them, so I am much more confident that anyone who placed an order will actually be receiving tracking info soon. I will update when I hear something.
