5 years married yesterday.

Replaced an 18” rifle-length with a 16” midlength Lightweight contour Criterion barrel. I am real excited for the changes I am making to this rifle, 3 years ago I thought I would love a precision 18” barrel AR but now I am making a niche focus CQB/Home Defense rifle.

So far only the barrel and trigger, but as I sell parts and use funds towards others, the total upgrades will be:

- 18” 2 lb 6 oz barrel replaced with a 16” 1 lb 6 oz barrel (huge difference in feel!!)

- remove adjustable gas block A2 front sight. standard low profile gas block will be installed (non adjustable - removal of a moving part), and a Magpul pro front sight to go with the rear I already have installed.

- replacement of non weapon flashlight with a Streamlight Railmount 2, along with a Haley strategic thorn tail mount on the right hand side.

- add a Primary Arms Micro red dot.

- replaced a Geisselle SSA-E with a Larue MBT. This gained me some $$$ on the swap and just feel more comfortable with the MBT in a defensive role.

- maybe someday I will add a AFAB nuzzle device but money will likely go to ammo and training instead.

I am really liking how light this is now, moving the weight back and losing 1 lb really made a huge difference in feel.

I don't understand. Why replace the barrel when you can build a whole new upper half for not much more money? The beauty of these guns is that they are so modular.

I have no use for a heavy barrel 18” AR with adjustable gas at this time, and on a budget of $75 a month for gun stuff it would take me a lot longer to build a new upper with these parts than modify this to be exactly what I want. The handguard alone would be several months of savings.
