Favorite .22LR automatic rifle that's not a 10/22?

Discussion of high-capacity magazines is moot.
Definition of semiautomatic assault rifle in Washington State Initiative #1639:
(25) “Semiautomatic assault rifle” means any rifle which utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and chamber the next round, and which requires a separate pull of the trigger to fire each cartridge.
“Semiautomatic assault rifle” does not include antique firearms, any firearm that has been made permanently inoperable, or any
firearm that is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action.

"semiautomatic assault rifle" appears 44 times in the text of I-1639

That is likely to be the answer, if I find one at a convenient dealer. Or maybe a Model 70, just to throw a detachable magazine into the mix.
They have been readily available at Walmarts and Gander Outdoors, along with BASS Pro around here. Anything similar to that where you live like Big5?

I do use a Remington 597 in 22 Magnum for hunting. I would not be without it as 22 mag is a practical requirement for hog hunting on public land here.

Also the Remington 552 can apparently run shorts and longs. Something to consider.

I drive (or bike, some days) right past a Big5 on the way to and from work. I think they had a Model 70 the last time I looked at their rifle rack, but that was probably a couple of months ago.

Ordinarily, I would've just chimed in with the others who've suggested a Model 60. I love mine.

But a few weeks ago, I picked up a barely used Savage 64, with a nice wooden stock, no iron sights though, but I threw a nice scope on it, and it's been a fun little tack driver.

If you can find one for cheap, I'd suggest giving one a try. IMG_20181016_120605678.jpg

I'm going to chime in with the CZ-512,,,
I own both the standard rifle and the carbine version.

I've owned just about every mainstream 22 semi-auto at one time or another,,,
These two are head and shoulders my favorites of them all.

Extremely reliable with SV ammo,,,
Extremely precise with SV ammo,,,
And they be very pretty.

A tad on the pricey side but worth every penny.

I've got good Nikon glass on both rifles now,,,
1/2" groups at 50 yards is the norm.

Try to get a Thompson Center R55 Benchmark. You will have to get it second hand because they are no longer made, but it is a great rifle.
I'm fully in agreement with Mr. Odd Job about the T-C 55 being a great rifle. I surpasses most other autoloading .22's in both design, execution and performance. Out of the box it equaled or surpassed the accuracy of other rifles that had been customized and fitted with target barrels. And for classy lines and finish it's in a class by itself. Since many folks have never seen, or even heard of the T-C 55, so here are a few photos of one. T-C .22.JPG TC9.JPG TC2.JPG TC3.JPG

Maybe they can order you one

Buying up semi-autos now and hoping to flip them later at a profit if such legislation passes is somewhat of a gamble. You might be able to make a profit, or you might be stuck with a bunch of guns you can't sell.

If I couldn't have a 10-22 for my personal use I'd just buy a bolt gun and call it good.

Very pretty! Is that current production?

Not what I want to do. I was joking about that. Learned my lesson buying a bunch of extra primers in spring 2016, expecting another run on components and ammo starting November 9.

Browning SA-22... After more than 100 years since John Browning designed it, the first semi-auto 22 rifle is still one of the best. It's high quality and unique design puts most other 22 semi-autos to shame....

Bushpilot says it pretty much like it is. If I had too spend my days with only one .22 autoloader, it would be the one shown here. Browning.JPG

Offfhand

Two beautiful rifles there with the TC 55 and the Browning SA-22! Thought about getting the TC 55 (really liked the whole design especially the stock dimensions), but decided to stay with my 10/22 instead.
