What’s that “cheapo” you want but won’t buy?

Rock island 1911’s have always caught my attention.
For being the cheaper of the variety i have to say spending a lot of time shooting a buddies they are very nice pistols and accurate for the money. I would have one if it wasn't for the cost of ammo!

It took me a good month to get it out of my head that i needed another pistol and another caliber to reload and look what ya done gone and did to me! lol
:)

Bersa Thunder double-stack 380,,,,

Every time I pick one up at a show, it seems to be 'a small pistol that calls my name',,, (Same with a Beretta 94, but I can't really call a 94 'cheap')

Then I come to my senses, realize 'it's a small pistol in 380', and remind myself that I really don't have an application for it.

:(

Oh boy this is quite a list for me.

HR Handi rifle. Impressive, even for a single shot.
Rock Island 1911. Not sure why on this, just can't see myself buying a 1911 made in the Philippines. And the model I want is really hard to come by, even on Gunbroker.
Walther P22. Quality control issues at Umarex are keeping me away.
Beretta 92FS. Had an Army one that wasn't too shot out and was accurate. Would only get it for nostalgia since it doesn't fit my hand as well as other handguns I have and like.
I would like to have a good half dozen M44 Mosin Carbines. Then there is cosmoline and corrosive ammo.

Most of my collection would be considered "cheapies" by most standards. I'm like a few others on this board in that I have always had a soft spot for unloved and poorly treated guns. Yes I have some pricier guns but I always seem to gravitate toward lower budget specimens. Hey, if they shoot and are reliable who cares what name is stamped on the receiver?

I have a lot of handguns, most bought used. Pretty much every “top tier” & “medium tier” maker along with some just plain odd ones. And I even have a 9mm High Point handgun for grins & giggles.

But for a cheapo, I want a Jennings 22! I can’t help it. But I’m too embarrassed to buy one online & have it go thru my LGS. I’d want to go out of town so no one I know would see me buy it. Still, assuming I could get one that’s not a jammomatic, I’d laugh and laugh shooting it at the range.

Has to be a Hi Point pistol caliber carbine. .380 ACP or 9 mm. Under $300 and they get good reviews. I want one but just can't see me buying a Hi Point.

I feel exactly the same.

Crickett Hunter or Chipmunk pistol.

I seriously considered getting one years ago because of the low price for a rimfire "hand rifle". However, I wanted a repeater and got a long barrel Single Six instead.

I've gone down the cheap gun path several times. Some are worthwhile (Bersa .22LR, for instance), others I wished I would've calmed my impulse to purchase.
I have shot the Crickett's before, they were ok. In my avatar my middle child is shooting her Savage Rascal. They are about the same size, and only a little more pricey. It think they would still qualify as cheap though. It has the same adjustable trigger as their larger rifles and is a far superior trigger to *most* of my rifles.

I want a double barrel coach gun so bad I can't stand it. Stoeger supreme is at the upper end of what I'm willing to pay, but I end up with all the lemon guns that come from Brazil. Won't go down that road again.

Since money is tight I've been resisting the urge for some cheapos.

Like others the Heritage Rough Rider with the bird's head grip looks attractive.

I'd like to get an inexpensive 38 special or two. Like a Taurus 85 or 856 (new or used) snubbed and a 4" S&W model 10 or even the Rock Island (or is that Rock River) model.

I've been looking at pocket pistols and the Taurus Curve ( I meant to say Spectrum) can be found online cheap enough to gamble on getting a good one. The Beretta Pico is a little more expensive but still a decent value.

The Taurus G2C is another cheapo that seems to be a great bargain.

If I had money I'd be dangerous ;)

I’ve only paid over $400 for one gun and that’s my GP100. Everything else is well below that mark.

Remington RP9

Taurus G2C

Ruger Super Blackhawk

Hi Point 9mm carbine

Maverick 88

Heritage Rough Rider.
I want a hi point pistol, just haven’t brought myself to buy one yet.

Charter Arms Bulldog Pug in 44 SPL. Not all that cheap but every time I get the itch to buy one I read several horror stories about them. They seem to bat about .500 and I'm afraid of getting a lemon.

HRR for sure, I got the .22 birdshead and it’s a fun gun.

I keep thinking about a a Phoenix Arms .22LR, the $125 pocket .22.

A Hi Point carbine, maybe, someday.

I’ve thought multiple times about getting a Hi-Point carbine in .45 acp. LGS had one for maybe $275 IIRC. Hard to pass up. Wouldn’t make much sense though since I’ve got multiple AR’s that I’ve never fired

I am with you on the Cobra Derringer. Look neat but I bet they are hard to hold in 38
I had one of the Cobray 45/410 double barrel Derringers. Look like they were made in High School shop class

Years ago I had a 38 derringer by Davis (pretty much dead ringer for the cobra).

That gun was flat out hard to shoot...took two hands and a small boy to pull the trigger, then even with powderpuff loads it hurt my hand.

I’ve been thinking for 30 years that I would like to have a bolt action .30-30.

A local gunshop has two in stock right now, a Savage 340 and a Springfield (840?). Both at fair prices but....

I really want a P85. Can't justify the cost of a used gun without a warranty. Cheaper to buy new. I am looking at a Security 9.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about a warranty on an older pistol. The P85 is a very robust handgun. I am the second owner of this one, I am friends with the original owner and neither one of us ever had any problems with it.

I would be more concerned about the reliability of a new pistol in the same price range.

People actually buy or don't buy guns according to the presence or absence of a factory warranty? That's a foreign concept to me. Ruger has no warranty anyway so.....

Cheap isn't about price. It's about quality- rather the lack thereof. I've had my fill of cheap firearms. Never again.

Kind of miss the Phoenix HP-22 with a 5" barrel that I used to have, but can't think of a need (reason) to replace it.
