I am looking to put a timiny trgger in a JC Higgins model 50 30-06,, I have seen a few posts about this rifle on here and was wondering where to look for this trigger and what model do I need, thanks

You can order the trigger directly from Timney. Just go to their website on Google by typing in Timney Trigger and then select Mauser. Their are about three versions of the trigger from about $60 to over $100. Some of the triggers have the side safety. I think you want the M98FN which is listed at $89.72. I usually get my triggers from eBay by typing in Timney Trigger and the cheaper version shows up as a Timney 101 M98FN for about $55. I usually pay about $90 for a good Timney trigger that adjusts from 2 to 4 pounds. I don't know why there selling that trigger for $55. I like the ones that have the blued trigger. Your rifle probably has the safety on the bolt shroud so pick a trigger that does not have the safety lever. Depending on your stock you may have to take a little wood out of the trigger area because the Timney trigger may be a little wider than the original. You may also have to widen the slot in the trigger guard. If you have to widen the slot just take a black felt tip pin to cover the file marks and it will look like the original blue.

I have used Timney triggers in all my Rem 700s and love them. I ordered mine direct from Timney. When you order directly from them, they will adjust the pull weight to your specification...a nice service feature. In addition, you can discuss your need with them to determine the best model for your use.

Good luck and,

good hunting,

thanks everyone good advice, will be ordering a timney soon, the 8lb trigger pull I have now is brutal

You can also call them directly. I bought a Timney from a website for a custom build, but bought the wrong one. I called them directly and they took care of it over the phone with NO problems. VERY helpful customer service. Don't be afraid to call to make sure you get the right one, but if you get the wrong one, they will help you get it right.

Timney also sells an excellent firing pin spring for a FN Mauser rifle. May as well order one at the same time you order the trigger. The spring really improved the lock time on the rifle that I have.

The difference between the cheaper trigger and the slightly more expensive one is how light you can set it.
Cheaper one for me stopped at just over 3lbs, but had a clean break. I was able to set the higher price one to 2.5 which is my preferred setting.
This was in a Turkish Mauser.

The most important thing for a trigger is a clean, glass rod-like, break. Pull weight is usually not a problem as long as the break is clean.

Now I have my M1 Garands and M1As, all of which have a two-stage military trigger, set between 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 lbs. I have done appropriate, safe, trigger jobs on all of them (I learned how at the CMP Advanced Maintenance Class) so that they break clean with virtually no creep. NRA and CMP rules for M1/M1A competitions specify that the trigger breaks at between 4-1/2 and 6-1/2 lbs and I prefer the heavier pull. 8 lbs is heavy but not brutal. That said, I had Timney send me 2-1/2 lb triggers for my precision rifles and 3-1/2 lbs for my hunting rifles, but they were, and are, single stage triggers.

Good shooting,
