I woke up early this morning and had the bright idea of workong on my Baby Browning. I took the handles off and the pin that retains the magazine catch came ot before I could yawn. I've been working on the Baby all day, searching YouTube and other sites but have found no help whatsoever. Can anyone please help me correct my error? I tried reassembly but the catch flips up to expose the spring and the magazine won't go into the handle.

Welcome to the forum!

Some pictures might give us a better idea of what you're dealing with.....

Of course the horse has already left the barn but in lieu of checking the owners manual, there are generic old fashioned books dedicated to the task of taking your firearms apart and putting them back together. You can get a couple different ones used off Amazon and place them on your bookshelf for the next adventure in gunsmithing.

But the much nicer and more gentlemanly than me THR member NIGHTLORD40K is making a great suggestion to get you back to shooting.

I gave this problem some thought about the various parts and that none were missing all there according to the schematics I've found so it had to be with placement of the respective parts. I had been assembling the mag catch wrong, that is why it was flipping with movement and exposing the spring. I had to press the catch in and push in downward for the pin to hold it in place and from that point on it wasn't difficult. Thank you for your suggestions, I did download and purchase instructions from one of the gun sites on the internet but it didn't tell me anything that wasn't common knowledge. Again, I think you both!

No problem bro. Baby Brownings are sweet, enjoy!

It's a magazine catch, not a magazine clip. i know what it does but he nomenclature escapes me sometimes. But I did get it reassembled. All the youtube videos and "help" websites don't even go into the catch and how to reinstall the thing. I even bought and downloaded instructions from Gunsdigest and they didn't cover the catch at all. Sometimes if a person has a problem and it consumes a lot time and effort, we need to step back and do some thinking and that is what I did. All the parts were there, so it had to go back in correctly and finally the deed was done. Now I know for the next time and if someone else has a problem putting the Baby Browning back together maybe I can help them.
