I bought a set of LPA adjustable FO sights for a S&W 625-6 in .45 Colt. The LPA rear is about 0.15” higher than the factory sight and the front is 0.06 lower, so the gun shoots 8” high at 25 feet. With the factory front, it still shoots 5” high.

Factory front - 0.34", LPA front = 0.28"

Looks like I need a front sight (preferably FO) that’s 0.4” tall and I can’t find one. Any ideas?
Oh, and it's a pinned front sight.

Are there no adjustable sights for your gun that are the right height, I.e. the same as OEM? Or is it you are trying to avoid suffering from your error? I would just bag it and buy the correct parts.

Guys, I want FO sights. That's "fiber optic". Yes, Dawson and others I've seen on-line have them, but they're not high enough.

I ordered an 1/8" thick sheet of orange acrylic. I'll fabricate a new sight similar to the one in this pic.

I like the look of that solid orange sight.
Should be fairly easy to fabricate exactly how you want too.

I'm happy both my favorite N frames have DX front sight bases. I might try making one to add to the "rotation" of front sights.

Since I couldn’t find a suitable front sight, I bought a sheet of 1/8” florescent orange acrylic and made my own.
I have similar sights on three of my other Smiths and love them, but they aren’t high enough.
I took the gun to the range yesterday and it’s just the right height - 0.4”. With the rear sight cranked up just 3 clicks it’s dead on at 50 feet.
The new one is at the bottom in this pic.

How durable is that stuff? I've seen them in the gun case with it,but never handled the stuff. seems like it would make for a real fast sight picture, that's for sure.

I'm not familiar with all the letters, such as LPA, but does it have a blade similar to the factory rear sight? If so, take a file to the blade to get it down to correct height.

What suggestion has your gunsmith made regarding sights?

Durability:
Probably not all that great, but I’m not carrying the gun into battle or packing it for defense. I’ve hunted with two revolvers I installed factory plastic sights on and had no trouble.
LPA is the manufacturer of the sight set. The rear is the 2-dot fiber-optic type, so filing it down wouldn’t work.

The suggestion was made to file one out of steel. It is possible to drill a small hole lengthways through the front sight to insert a piece of fiber optic. After drilling lengthways, you must file away the center section so light can get to the FO insert. A little work but doable.
