American Reloading has 3 new powders, called "Midwest Powders". The powders are listed as:
  1. MP 530, which is "similar to CFE-223"
  2. MP 275, which is "similar to Longshot"
  3. WC-846 Military smokeless powder, which is "similar to BL-C2"
I'm familiar with WC-846, but never heard of the two other "MP" powders.

Any information from the intelligent folks on this board? Are they just another canister and/or pulldown type of powder?

$25 a lb delivered for the MP 275. I can beat that price all day long at Graf's. Vetan powders are under $20 a lb, some of the pistol powders are $14.99 for 1.1 lbs. $7.99 shipping and $10 hazmat.

I wasn't asking about the pricing, FWIW they're doing a 20% off using code: 20powder

I'm asking about the powder itself, having never heard of it before...

Maybe they are powders US military contractors loaded 9mm, 5.56 and 7.62x51 with?

That's what I'm wondering. Since we know the history of the WC family of powders, and they seem to put these 2 new ones in the same category...?

The simple fact I cant find anything using Google when in search for mp530 would be enough for me to take a pass.

The fact that American reloading lists it also puts me on alert.

My guess is its powder from disassembled rounds.

Using Google for any gun related searches won't get you to far.

Why don't you just send them an email and ask them

Bottom line is that you should expect these powders to be of alien (i.e. not United States) manufacture and possessed of characteristics SIMILAR TO, but NOT EQUIVALENT TO spcecific G.I or Canister Powders from third-party sellers.

Use at your own risk.

If you have the patience to dial-in a load independent of load data that has yet to be published, then by all means, please "go for it".

Finally received a reply from American Reloading:

Midwest Powders is simply a distributor that gets overrun powder from large manufactures of ammunition. The powder is virgin and never used but has been re packaged from large drums to jugs. If the label says it is similar to CFE 223 than that will be what to compare it to. We can't call it CFE 223 but we can "compare it". Hope this helps!

Thanks,

American Reloading

So there ya go... Basically what I thought it was, repackaged powder from commercial sources, similar to the WC line of powders.

Any updates? Did you buy and try any of this stuff?

No, sorry I didn't buy any. I've heard, from other sources across the internet, from some that supposedly know, that this powder is good to go! Heard from a few individuals who've used it.

YMMV...
