I jumped in on a new caliber this week, and things came together today. No shooting just yet, but I'll get to that next weekend.

I just got the Cast Bullet manual, which has some extra data not included in Lyman 50th. So I now have some data for .41 mag lead loads. And the Acme bullets just arrived. Now I have two loads to work up.

I had some parts left over from converting my .44 SBH to a Bisley. So I used those parts and added a stainless ejector rod housing, which was mainly for the look I admit, as the original turned out to be blued steel and not the aluminum I thought it was. Then a PC free spin pawl (@Varminterror suggested one for my SBH, and I ended up installing one in that too. Much better than the half-cock system I originally used). I also put in a 18# mainspring from a previous spring kit. Hopefully that'll be enough; it shoots a bic pen about 4 feet in the air (pretty similar to the SBH which has a 19# spring and works fine). I know, very scientific, so I'll have to thoroughly test it. I also found the cylinder latch was a little high when the gate was open, creating drag on the cylinder. I hadn't noticed it before I installed the free spin pawl, but did notice the scratches on in cylinder in the "pre-op" pic. Being confident I'd put the gun back together correctly, I compared it to my SBH and found it high. So I filled it down til I got a little clearance with the gate open. Then the cyclinder spun like it should, and with the gate closed it still locks up positively.

And then my new leather arrived, from Simply Rugged.

Now I just have to finish the sight painting, in Hot Tamale!

After all this, I hope I actually like the cartridge. But I suspect I will.

It works, I like it.

Thanks! I also considered switching out some other parts (base pin, loading gate, etc) for even more of a two-tone looks, but I decide that might be overdoing it. Not to mention being expensive.

Sweet. The .41 mat is truly a non appreciated caliber if it was released in a better way and maybe had a "special" cartirdge to go along with it I have no doubt it would hold the status as the "gold standard " that so often goes to the .357.
If you want a six shooter in a medium frame, it will need to be .357 or .41 Special, not 41 Magnum.

Do you mean the coloring, or do you think it's gonna blow up? :D

Lol - the two tone coloring. I always forget about the car - but I've raised and trained registered American Paint Horses for my entire life. The pinto Ruger's were really the old aluminum accented blued revolvers, but as more and more of us have done stainless & blued two tones in the last decade, it's started to stick for any two tone Ruger.

Very cool and unique. Let’s us know how it shoots.

I certainly will. I'm thinking of loading up 50 XTPs and 50 of 210gr coated SWCs at around 15.0gr of 2400, and getting to know it a little before I start working up loads.

Edit: Oops, the SWCs are 215gr.

Just wondering...how many different bullets are listed for 41 magnum in the Cast Bullet Handbook? The last Lyman reloading manual I bought was disappointing, even though more 41 caliber bullets are available now, fewer bullets were shown than in previous manuals.

Re: Cast Bullet Handbook 4th edit.

It has charts for 4 different bullet weights of .41 mag. 185gr, 195gr, 210gr, and 220gr. The powders are Unique, ACC. #9, 2400, IMR-4227, and H110. Unfortunately, there are no heavy for caliber loads.

But this book also includes some other data, which I was disappointed to find was not in the Lyman 50th. Such as 158gr and 180gr .357 mag, and 310gr GC .44 mag. And for those who have 10mm, there is data for 180gr and 200gr lead.

It's not perfect, but it does contain some addition data, and that's helpful.

There is quite a bit of load data available online, I have someone's compiled spreadsheet on it, I can scan it and send it to you, just PM me. I downloaded it mostly for the cast bullet data, but it has a lot of everything. Even Hodgdon's online data has data for bullet weights up to 265grn... so it's out there.

Another good powder for the .41 is Unique... but you probably already knew that.
