Took this rifle in trade, a 112 in .223. I'm now sure exactly what it is. Perhaps a BVSS or some such. Maybe pictures of the stock [not the carving] could help someone tell me exactly what it is?

The stock is a bvss. The newer ones have black forends tips but older ones didn’t. I think someone added the vent holes, never came that way as far as I know.

Yes it’s a BVSS stock. And it’s either an older rifle or store/distributer exclusive since it doesn’t have the Accu-Trigger. What is throwing me off is the fact that it’s a Model 112 instead of a Model 12. Savage usually reserves the 3 digit model numbers for long action rifles and 2 digit model numbers for short action rifles. Either way, it’s a sharp looking rifle and should be plenty accurate

Prior to the late 90’s they used 3 digit model numbers for all rifles, short and long action. And there was no accutrigger till the early 2000’s

Someguy, thanks for the info. Back then all of my Savage rifles were either long action calibers (30-06, 270, etc) or rimfire rifles.

One can still buy Savage rifles without the accutrigger as store/distributer exclusives such as Walmart.

It is a long action.

Hrrmmm....If I remember correctly, and it's possible I either don't, or this is from before I was into them.
The bvss were all solid stainless.
It might be a custom build on an older reciever as the bolt handle doesn't look like an oversized one, and also doesn't have the knurling on top, like the standards.

The stock and barrel could have been bought as a set from someone who was modifying their rifle.

Again total conjecture based on what I remember.

BUT if for some reason that's how it turned out, I'd check headspace, as I've never seen the lettering match up properly after a rebarrel without some work, or the headspacing being a little off.
