I have my first AR being shipped to my FFL. It comes with the usual 30 round P Mag. I want to buy some 20 round mags for bench shooting. I would appreciate any advise on which mags to get. I kind of like the metal straight profile, but reliable function trumps looks. I guess I should be looking at the PMag Gen 3 20 round but I have no experience dealing with plastic bodies and feed lips

I have a few 20rd pmags, and I really lime them. Shorter metal mags are nice, but I really like pmags. Only metal mags I actually use are for my 6.8 because I haven't got anything else that will work.

I use the Magpul G3 AR/M4 10 and 20 round magazines. Have not had any trouble with them.

I like Pmags, my Army vet sharpshooter brother prefers metal.

Just buy decent mags and you should be fine.

Also if I’m not mistaken some of the metal mags have Pmag internals which get rave reviews. So that may be a good option.

Or you can get the followers from PMag and replace them yourself.

I prefer 20 round mags over 30 rounders. I really like the 20 round Lancer Mags. I use the 10 round Pmags for bench and varmint hunting. I wish I could trade all 30 rounders I have for 20's

Brownells & Pmags for my 20’s.

I prefer to get stainless steel bodies to gain some seating length, whenever I can.

I've had good luck with Pmag gen 2 20- and 10-rounders. I have a few of each of those, a ton of 30-round mags, and a single 40 for laughs.

Nothing wrong with PMags. But if you're going to keep them loaded while being stored just make sure you use the dust covers. I think gen 3 PMags come with dust covers but you normally have to buy them separately for gen 2.

C products in 10 and 20 round sizes and p-mags in 20 and 30 round sizes. I really like the C products mags. Haven't owned any brownells branded ones, but they seem to be quality from the few I've seen in person.

20 Round "GI" type with Magpul followers, Lancers, curved Magpuls, ELanders, all have worked fine for me.

I have never had a bad mag, mine are all metal, mostly steel with one GI aluminium one I found in some scrap stuff. Have bought some 20 and 30 round Stones I believe and have a couple 10 rounders I prefer for bench shooting. I simply don't need that many rounds at a time when shooting from the bench. My R15 came with what was described as a 5 round mag, but looking at it, it appeared it was a 10 rounder with a small tab hat was punched in so that it would only hold 5. Took maybe a minute to break that tab off and poof another 10 round mag.

I have new production aluminum, pmags, as well as some OLD Colt 20 rounders. They all work fine.

For pure function my choice is magpul.

I'm still using a bunch of old Colt 20 rounders that I got many years ago. Some are marked ".223" while others are "5.56mm."; all of them work just fine.

i have a few brownells 20 round mags and have never had an issue with them. i have a few 20 round pmags as well but they dont get used nearly as often as the brownells mags.

I use Pmags for my 300 AAC supersonics and USGI pattern straight magazines for my 5.56.
