Before you commit, take a walk down the ammo aisle in walmart, and see what you will be paying to feed whatever it is you are considering. Of the 3 calibers, you will find the most economy in 45 ACP, I think.

I think I am pretty set on the 357 at this point. If I was planning to stick with factory ammo, yes I would stick with either 45 or 38. However, I intend to get into handloading and make a huge batch of 38s.

as suggested earlier i urge getting a 22 asap as well as a centerfire handgun. for the former i like these rugers: sr22, single six and lcr. im a revolver guy but really like the sr22, it’s easy to load and fieldstrip and eats any 22lr ammo the single six lets you play with 22wmr too and a single action revolver is slow great fun. the 1.8” barrelled lcr is handy but if i were to have only one 22 handgun i would look at the 3”.

I absolutely love my S&W 617 4". It ain't cheap, but it's AWESOME!
If you're a semi-auto fan wanting a .22lr, get a Ruger SR22 or Beretta M9-22. (depending on your size desires)
If you're a wheel gun fan, get a 617.

Thanks for the reminder. I downloaded a couple of older videos on stuff to look out for when buying revolvers. One is fairly general and the other is specific to the canted barrel issue. Has S&W fixed this issue yet? I would think they would have fixed that problem by now.

When you care contemplating a S&W L or N frame you are looking at $800.00-1000.00 or more so even if you have a particular model in mind it might take a trip to several stores to find one that you like or is put together perfect.

One thing you will notice about these guns is the double action trigger is fairly hefty. Not that I'm the measure of all things but I usually take my new revolvers straight to a revolver smith to have action work and a few other things done to them. Before I even shoot them. So if there is a little issue like the cylinder needs to be trued, I have him do that instead of sending it back to S&W.

Good choice for all around general revolver shooting. Personally I shoot a lot of revolver, hardly ever shoot magnum loads though.
