Berretta PX4 Storm compact

I have one in 40. I love it. The rotary barrel actually does make a difference in recoil. The only thing I don’t like is the barrel length. The perfect PX4 would be the full size gun that accepts compact magazines. Unfortunately you just can’t chop off the frame because the hammer spring retainer needs to be moved. I lack the courage to do the to my full sized 9mm.

Because of the shape I’ve seen them referred to as “the little hair dryer that could” which I find highly amusing.

I liked the looks of them, liked the trigger, but I couldn't get over the really awful finish. Looked like a cross between a Ruger and a Hi-Point baked on enamel. Turned me off of them immediately.

I always thought they were far too blocky. But then I bought a HK P30SK, which is pretty much just as blocky.

If you're looking at that size gun, the P30SK with a LEM trigger is a really nice option. That being said, I like the PX4 quite a bit.

I had the occasion to see one with the stainless slide at the range and it a was very nice little pistol. The full size Px4 is a very pleasant gun to shoot, very soft, very accurate gun. I don't like the F slide lever (decocker+safety), I much prefere the G slide lever (decocker only).

I appreciate all the responses. The one thing I'm looking for is the hammer and the DA/SA feature. I like my XDE for that and don't like my XDS.I have seen some reviews and wanted a real world opinion.

Then the PX4 all day. The DA/SA HK trigger sucks without enhancement. In fact I just started a thread about it. I've only shot the full size, but have handled the compact. I also owned a Stoegar Cougar. I like the rotary design of the barrel except for the fact that the barrel has to be slightly shorter in those guns so it has room to move. But is a tenth of an inch or two going to make any real difference? Probably not.

What's wrong with the trigger. I just came back from the range and was shooting the xds and I'm done with it. I know it's me and my grip but everything I try doesn't help. Shots are so all over the place, sometimes where I aim but usually not. Switching to my xde, no problem keeping a good group. I just want to throw the xds. Waste of money. It's cleaned and in the safe till I find something else.

I hope I didn't confuse things. The DA/SA HK trigger sucks in my opinion. It breaks cleanly, but is heavier than it needs to be, so when you said you wanted DA/SA capability, it caused me to retract any encouragement to look at the P30SK.

The PX4 trigger seems fine to me. I've only shot a full size PX4 though.

I have been carrying an XDs 45 for several years and the trigger does leave a lot to be desired. I can hit with it quickly, but it isn't fun, and I'm not very precise with it. I'm actually looking to buy a Sig P938 Legion as a replacement for my XDs.

Full size F in 45 ACP, Full size G in 9, and Wife has a Compact F in 9.
12# hammer spring in all.
I added the Beretta 'Competition Trigger Group' to my G,,,
The G is my fave 'plastic' 9.

Skgreen, what 12 pound hammer spring did you use in your px4? I currently have the "D" spring in mine but shaving a little more DA pull weight is never a bad thing IMO.

If you have the funds and they still offer them look into the PX4 Compact Carry. That was a nice looking pistol but a little more pricey than a stock one.

Langdon Tactical Technologies is still doing the carry prepared PX4 Compact Carry model with Ernest Langdon trigger work. I see no reason to even consider a stock PX4 if the Langdon model is within budget.

I'm not able to get the upgraded one but am looking at Bud's site for the one I can afford. I've got a buyer for the xds today just have to bring it in.

Isn't a PX4 compact a fair bit bigger and bulkier than an XDs?

I carry an XDs 3.3 in 45acp and thought I remember the PX4 compact being a considerably bulkier gun?

I have had my Beretta 92 INOX for 30 years now and have carried it through many trainings. It is definitely too big for a carry gun (I feel sorry for the cops that had that much weight strapped to their waste every single day) but I love the SA/DA with decocker + safety that I am so familiar and comfortable with! To me the Beretta PX4 compact was too big for EDC but I have long been interested in them for what I would consider a perfect night stand gun. Large enough and controllable enough to shoot easily, small and light enough to slip into a robe pocket and the manual of arms that I prefer. My current night stand gun is a XD mod 2 .45acp compact. I am plenty proficient with the XD but I really like the manual safety and heavy first trigger pull with the light pull follow up shots. With other family members in my house I prefer the smidgen of extra time and effort the DA + safety requires. Like I said it is what I trained with and what I am most comfortable with. My Beretta 92 server many many years as my night stand gun... but I kind of drank the picatiny mounted flashlight Koolaid.

It seems to me that the PX4 compact should be a lot more popular! I assume most younger folk prefer the striker fired no manual safety Glock class guns?

Yes it is a bit bigger than the Xds but I like you prefer the da/as with manual safety. My rd is an code 9mm. The px4 isn't much bigger than the Xds width wise etc. The Xds is going today. Not a fan anymore of the striker pistols. I've had 4 and the only one I shoot well is my g19 but too big for most situation.

I have a px4 SC and like it. Got it for a killer deal, used but practically new for 299. At first didn't like the grips but the more I handle it the more it grows on me. Would like to change out the decocker for the more flush fitting ones. Other than that I like the DA pull and SA is great.

One of my favorite pistols, I have full size in: 9mm, .40, two .45 ACP, one DAO and one DA/SA and one Sub Compact in 9mm.

They are all good shooters, I haven't found a handled the 9mm doesn't like.

I spent a whole lot of time before I bought a gun to replace my striker fired 9mm that I shot and carried for years. Found the Nano and became a big fan, never looked back. Which obviously means I am very interested in the PX4. Some say it is blocky, but I like the looks, the trigger and the quality. Not to enthusiastic about the price. One thing for sure, is I personally am done with light striker fired guns. I will not be buying anything in the future. Only double action. Especially for smaller EDC firearm. And for myself, the double action becomes addictive. I just like them.

I have always wanted a subcompact in .40. I know they look like weird little alien ray guns. I know the .40 is being touted as a "dead" cartridge (yeah, goofball rounds like the GAP who have stuck around for over a decade after obsolescence would like a word with you), but to me they just look cool and I still have a soft spot for the snappy .40.

The da/sa trigger is just icing on the cake.

The Beretta PX4 Storm Compact will probably be my next pistol purchase. Much of that is probably the result of Lucky Gunner reviews.

It's interesting in that it's a DA/SA polymer pistol made by Beretta that regularly shows up on the used market for $400 or less.

Yeah, that custom PX4 by Langdon is cool too. But I'm wondering if I'd be able to pull my money out of it if I decided that it wasn't for me.
