LGS called to let me know they just got in a S&W Military & Police Pre Model 10 and thought I might be interested. They know I have an addiction to pinned Smith&Wessons and they tend to feed my habit. I have two other model 10's but this is my first pre model.
It has some holster wear in the usual places but it locks up tight and the internals and bore are excellent. It also came with a period correct holster which I'm going to retire and replace it with a nice soft case. I'm going to guess it's a late 40's manufacture but not certain. Serial # is C 216307 if anyone could help me with that.

Nice acquisition. I got this 1949 (maybe early 1950) M&P with a 5” barrel about 5 years ago from my local pawn shop. SN C1055xx. Reportedly the side arm of a county sheriff from Kentucky with his name scratched into the bottom of one stock.

As nice as the gun is, and it really is, congratulations, it's the holster that I really like.

When I was a kid, there was a local department store called "Miracle Mart." They didn't sell guns, but for some reason there was always a display of those holsters there.

And I am a sucker for diamond grips. Either Magna, or targets.

Very nice revolver and in great condition. I bought one that dates to 1948 about 9 years ago. I love shooting it, I'm sure you will love shooting yours too. The triggers from back then are why S&W got their reputation for glass like smooth triggers.

Great find, good luck!

If you want a great general purpose holster for it, I picked up one of these from El Paso Saddlery for the Victory model I picked up earlier this year. I have the same type holster for a number of guns and they do work well...

This is the old girl thats riding in it. Not quite as pretty as yours, but as one of the boys I used to work with used to describe his wife... "Shes like a Chevy. Nothing fancy, just serviceable.". :D

If we're going to do pics...you showed me yours, so I'll show you mine. :)

It's from 1915-16 and is butt ugly. Maybe you would call it 10% finish? It's a little loose and the rifling is a little worn, but it shoots okay and I put some mild handloads through it every once in a while just for old time's sake.

So 70 or so years old and the color case hardening still looks great. Let's see how long it lasts on the Italian or Brazilian imports.

My nickle 6" M&P comes in at C966xx, so based on the info here probably a 1949?
