You won't be disappointed with the Leupold. I still have more Leupolds than anything else.

This will bring me back up to 6 Leupolds, replacing the one I removed to put on mom’s muzzleloader last month. I’m still curious to try a mid-line Vortex as I like the glass well enough but I’m faltering on where it might best fit in with my rifles (sporters). I may need to consider a new intermediate range rig before committing to that. Perhaps a Ruger Precision or a 700 build.

I voted for the Leupold and Vortex for reasons below.

Leupold for the hunter, Vortex for the range rifles.

Leupold has better dusk/dawn capabilities and is lighter. Vortex has better turrets.

I have that particular Leupold and it is awesome glass for the money, IMHO you can't find better for the price. But I also have a Vortex FFP 2.5-10x32 which it's turrets blows my Leupolds away.

Two thoughts:

I totally agree with the above sentiment.

You use hieroglyphics as your user name because you’re D.B. Cooper and don’t want to give out any clues as to your identity.

He’s Luke Fisherman. D.B. is in Alaska, totally different member. I’m 3rd cousin to the Dalai Lama on my mother’s cousin’s brother’s side. The beard disguises me so I can hunt without protests from hippie granola eaters. “Be more like your cousin” pffft! Shoot tasty stuff and grill it I say!

I can’t say I made the clearest choice after all but at $330 I felt like it was a worthy enough deal and I like its 4-12x sibling, also VX-2/AO/Windplex/CDS. If stars don’t align I’ll be getting taxes back soon...

Yes, my name is Luke and I do love fishing. And D.B. Cooper bought a place near Mt. St. Helen's don't you know, he paid cash.

skylerbone,

You probably chose well. I would have recommended more magnification than your list provided to shoot those longer distances. I have a Bushnell Elite 6-24X that works well for long distance prairie dogs with my Kimber .204 out to 300+ yards. But, of those on your list, I like the Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10X. I have it and it's older brother the VX-3. Both attached to 17HMRs; also prairie dog favorites.

Scope arrived today, but I didn’t have time or the foggiest notion of where to mount it just yet. @Sniper66, I’ve always been tempted by more magnification but until today my largest was a 16x and that sucker always looked out of place. One thing I really appreciate about Leupold is that for some of their shortcomings they do build a reasonably compact, light scope.

There is a gun show in town tomorrow, I may dig around for 10/22 parts, maybe a mount for the .300 Win. barrel, or maybe...

Side-by-side with the 4-12x on my daughter’s 452.

I’m thinking more and more it will look great on the Model 70.
