Looks good, what did you do to it?
What didn’t I do lol. First thing I did was to replace the grip with a Romanian bakalite that I put on a buffer to really clean it up. Second I polished the bolt carrier to nice shine on the same buffer.
The wood was first stripped with paint stripper.
Then put it a cooler with 50/50 water and Clorox for about a day to bleach the wood. Sanded it down smooth and put one one coat of mahogany red stain. Didn’t wipe the stain off cause I wanted it to be the dark color it is. Mixed Scarlet red Rit dye and acetone and semi gloss polyurethane. 3 coats buffed out with steel wool each time. And there ya have it Lol

Beautiful work, AK's will always be a no nonsense tough as nails firearm to me, they have their definite place in the history of firearms. I love the Russian Red look you gave it.

Nice ! I have a Bulgarian A.K. that I picked up back in the clinton era still haven't shot it yet ,and it has the plastic thumb hole stock that is ugly as sin in my opinion I think that I will have to find some wood furnature and try for that look . Maybe that will get me to take "Ivan" out to the range .

Ironwood designs makes a stock for the Bulgarian, other then that you will have to weld or rivet a tang on the receiver for other stocks to fit.

Jeff Burgess: Excellent job with the wood. It looks much better than my guns' furniture, which only have some red mahogany Minwax stain but little shine.

Four imported AKs are my only semi-auto rifles: SAR-1, AMD-65 (TGI), Maadi (Intrac) and straight-cut MAK 90. This bug's infection has no cure.

Great looking AK! Nothing like doing the work yourself . It really makes the rifle "yours". Makes me want to get on a couple of projects that have been sitting around.

Jeff Burgess

Very nice job of refinishing your AK! I especially like the dark red color of the wood! Well done sir!
