When you save a victim - Jayme Closs
https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/14/us/ja...med/index.html

Get a weapon," Kristin Kasinskas remembered her neighbor, Jeanne Nutter, saying after Kasinskas ushered them inside her home in rural Gordon, Wisconsin -- about 70 miles north of where Jayme was last seen.
"The officer told us to get away from the windows and get downstairs," Kasinskas said. "An officer sent my husband to the back door and told him to stand there with the gun in case he comes that way."
Well, what would the standard antigun folks say about that?

The fact that CNN reported the story and emphasized the legal use of firearms to protect victims of crime shows that even some anti-gun people can recognize the value of guns for self defense.

It's a good example that the world is not simple, that things aren't always black or white.

And thank goodness there are good ordinary people who are willing to put themselves on the line to protect the helpless. Great story.

They’d prolly reply she might not have been taken and the parents killed if the the kidnapper hadn’t had a gun...

Good story ... remarkably free of any bias, especially for CNN ... But wonder if that would've been said had the girl turned up inside the Madison city limits?

with a freak like that on the loose we all should be carrying an extra clip...
... if we grab the Garand instead of a pistol ...;)

They’d prolly reply...
"Prolly?"

Hope this sad case gets every bit of the news coverage it deserves... The tiniest chance that a monster comes to your door should be all the incentive ordinary folks need to make sure of their family's security....

When the initial story faded from view a few months back I thought we were looking at a boyfriend/girlfriend gone bad situation. The emerging story is enough to keep you up at night. In my 22 years as a cop, during a pretty violent era.. only once or twice did I ever even hear about something this bad...

A great lesson presented is that you should never let yourself to be put in a position of true disadvantage if you can(not saying that’s the case here); I think another article said they daughter and mom heard the shot that killed the father, and locked themselves in a bathroom... dad was shot thru the front door, then kidnapper shot door open.

Lotsa detail in planning and premeditation of killer.

Very sad story in the beginning. Based on the information available, had the Closs family had been armed, it is pretty unlikely that the initial kidnapping/murder would have been successful.

https://abc7ny.com/complaint-reveals-horrifying-details-in-jayme-closs-abduction/5076274/

"Jayme told investigators she had been asleep in her room when her dog started barking and she and her mother, Denise, saw a masked man dressed in black and armed with a gun approaching the door. Jayme and her mom hid in the bath tub, while the teen's father, James, went to see who was at the door, according to the criminal complaint. They heard a gunshot and knew James had been killed.

Investigators said...that they had received a 911 call from an unknown person at around 1 a.m. That call was placed by Denise Closs, according to the complaint, before Patterson broke down the <bathroom> door, ordered Denise to drop her cell phone and put tape over her daughter's mouth. Patterson then shot her in front of her daughter, according to charging documents."

Very sad. And very likely preventable.

If there was ever a case where the killer was deserving the death penalty, this is it.

I’m really interested to see what else comes out about this guy in the future...

I applaud the women walking the dog and the homeowners for acting quickly and decisively....

My thoughts...
1. People who live in the boonies are used to solving their own problems and doing things themselves, so taking assertive action to help this girl came natural to them (unlike city critter snowflakes).
2. "Get a gun?" (not.... "do you have a gun?") Again, people who live in the boonies are familiar with firearms and it could be assumed that the home owners had some type of gun in the house.
3. These are the very people Hillary calls "deplorables"... but they are the kind of people you want for neigbors.
4. The irony is, the dog walker was a retired social worker and the home owner was a public middle school science teacher (NEA gig), so both are likely D's and both are very likely to support gun control. But when push comes to shove, they both knew that a gun was the only thing that could prevent this sicko from having his way with them.

This is an insulting, ridiculous statement. You have absolutely no clue as to what you are talking about.

How is it insulting? It was as stated, "My(his) thoughts".

Please 'clue' us in.

I agree.

There are several people here, even on such a generally polite forum, who never pass up an opportunity for division. ... Yup, those city types. Not quite as good as rural types.

I live in a city of about one million, so I could take that comment towards myself, but the bickering just has to stop at some point. So sometimes it’s just better to say “no big deal”.

Well, since the (2) people who helped and the killer were from same area I guess empirical evidence says you’d have a 33 1/3% chance of being murdered by a local but a 66 2/3% chance of being helped...

That said, I’m assuming the killer is going to be found to be on the spectrum (autism, high functioning type).

His lack of a criminal record, his singular and merciless manner in the abduction... work history, lack of social contacts/friends... he could just have easily fallen into the ranks of school shooters, etc...

The comparison was with “city critter snowflakes” which requires one to meet at least two conditions to be included.

I can see by your “easily offended” response that you meet one of them

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

The dog walker has a bunch of Christian likes and supports Dennis Stuart (a 'R' candidate) on her Facebook.

So prolly not.
