For my fall addition to the collection I picked up a big brother for my little pocket gun. Big Bro is a S&W 422 in really good shape. No box or papers and minus any other goodies it came with one 10 rnd magazine. I promptly added to the mix three 12 rnd mag's. Little Bro is a S&W 2214 that I picked up a couple years back. I've wanted one of these pocket guns since I saw them come on the market in the early 90's. Both run well and are keepers. My introduction to this line of fine guns was the S&W 2206TGT years ago that I foolishly let go down the road. So the target 422 is for now a stand in until I find another 2206TGT.

Who else has one of these 422, 622, 2214, 2213, 2206's...?

Never had one (mainly a Ruger Mk.II fan myself), but I really liked their design and should have bought one or two of them back then.

Love my 422, actually prefer it slightly over the Ruger as it is lighter and has better sights. My 12 year old shoots it regularly.:D
The only thing that bugs me is the rather cheesey plastic mag release. The other controls are very positive and 1911ish. The 422 gets alot of attention at the range too.

I have a 622 that largely sits in the safe. Nice gun but never close to being a favorite. Good sights, OK trigger, functions with cheap standard ammo. Funky takedown. Maybe I'll break it out for a range visit as it's been years since I've shot it.

I had one of these- a 4" 422, and I loved it. Unfortunately the first wife and I moved to NYC, and all of the handguns were sold on. I would like another, and a 2214 would suit me to a T. As to their needing to be kept clean, I heard this when I had mine and decided to test it by not cleaning the gun until I encountered stoppages. 1300 rounds later I gave up; it just wouldn't stop working. I came to regret this when I went to clean it- it took hours to get all the crud out !

Both of mine have aluminum mag releases. I like the controls on these better than my 22/45 controls. Similar but different .

My grandpa has one. It works well if you don’t load 12 in the magazine. Last time I shot it a couple cases split in the chamber and had to be taken out with a flathead.

Trigger was really nice though.

What does the trigger break at for some of you? Mine is at 3.5#'s. Long ago I had the 'smith clean it up so to me it is pretty crisp. Noticed that there were heavy, regular and light variants of the disconnector. Was pondering what the light version would feel like.

I loved the feel of mine, but it was my first handgun and I didn't really know how to shoot, and it was so light I pushed every shot with too much finger on the trigger. I traded it in for a mkii bull barrel that I shot a lot better. I'd like to try one again, but I'm currently well stocked with 22 pistols.

Two fine looking S&W Model 422s you've got there! Especaily like the look of the 6" barrel model!

OP,

Yep, I've got a 422 Target model identical to yours... bought it new in 1992, it came with a 12 round magazine and I bought a second 12 rounder for it as well. If anyone knows where I can get one of the grip screws, I need one, LOL...

Always wanted a 2206 also, but never have come upon one.

This is my favorite shooter and the most accurate. Browning Buck Mark Hunter with a 7 1/4" barrel. 20181114_201630658_iOS.jpg

My 2214 is breaking at 4.84 lbs, which is good for me as it is more of a defense training tool. My 422 was breaking at 4.37 lbs prior to a hammer and sear swap. It is now at 2.12 lbs. (I have a friend who has a jig for the hammer and sear for the 422 plus series. He did some polishing on a set for me that reduced the pull weight.) I was thrilled with this improvement as I'll be using the 422 more for target shooting.

The different disconnect "weight" variants do nothing for the trigger pull weight. My friend told me, "They relate to the "disconnect" which essentially keeps the fire system in semi-auto mode by disconnecting the trigger from the sear. On this one it does it with that disconnector, the slide pushes down on it, which pushes the trigger bar down when the slide is not in battery. The heavy disconnector has a larger part that interacts with the slide, while the light is smaller there. None of them actually influence trigger pull though." He does a lot of work on these pistols and has been around the block on this matter.

Thanks Indigo22 great info! I'm pleased with how mine is set-up, was curious if that part would influence the trigger so now I know.

That rear sight looks really nice on there. I wish the rear on the factory had a bigger notch. S&W relayed to me that none of the other rear blades will fit that assembly.
