Illinois, New Gov., new law for gun shops

Kitchen table dealers are done. Wonder how many retailers who don't donate heavily to Demon Rat politicians will find it VERY difficult to become licensed through the state? The potential for abuse is so wide open that it is unreal. If they refuse to license any, it will be a HELL of a lawsuit. Chicago can warn them that losing gun lawsuits cost a lot of money...

As I was saying, there is a small range in McHenry Il. that the wife and I frequent because it's close by (25/30min) and by carefully selecting times when can find times when it's not too busy and many times there are only one or two other people on the range. The guy that bought out the shop is a very nice guy and doesn't mind spending time jaw jackin when he's slow. He is also an instructor and tactical shooter that doesn't have an attitude. In the 2 years he's but in a lot of effort to build the business back up and I for one would like to see him succeed. Beside the fact that the next closest indoor range that is here in Wisconsin is over an hour away.

Anyone who does not see how the next Civil War has already begun has blinders on. The left has taken over without a shot being fired. This type of tyranny is just part of the ongoing process.

“We allow schools, and movie theaters, hospitals, neighborhoods to become battlefields — legally accessible by the weapons of war,” he said. “Our abdication of responsibility must end.”

Wanna bet HE has an armed detail? And, I wager, he never sets foot on the South Side of Chicago, day or night.

The weapons of war language is intentional. With a veto proof majority the Dems will go for broke and ban everything they can and take as big of a bite out of our 2A rights as possible. Lawsuits where possible to fight this are going to take years. We’re in for a rough ride.

Attached is a summary of what passed. It looks like a form of regstration is included.

Today, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 337 into law. Passed by the previous legislature in 2018, SB 337 will establish a firearm registry and shut down your local gun stores with government red tape. Senate President John Cullerton previously made the unprecedented move of placing a procedural hold on the bill in order to avoid the possibility of a veto under the previous Governor, Bruce Rauner, and then removed the hold to send the bill to a newly inaugurated governor.

Senate Bill 337, as amended by Representative Kathleen Willis (D-77), will direct the state police to create an electronic transaction form for firearm transfers, which will amount to a registry. This solution in search of a problem will not only waste taxpayer funded resources, but it will also not improve public safety. Criminals, by definition, do not obey the law, and acquire the vast majority of their firearms illegally such as by theft, on the black market, or by straw purchase. A registry would not affect criminals as it could only include lawful transactions. The only purpose that firearm registries serve is to facilitate future confiscations of firearms from those who currently own them legally.

In addition, SB 337 will create onerous gun dealer licensing within the state. While the purported intent of this law was to enhance “responsible business practices,” this law only proves that the intention is to close as many federally licensed firearm dealers (FFLs) as possible. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) licenses and closely monitors all FFLs and strictly enforces any violation of federal law. SB 337 goes so far beyond federal law in its mandatory regulations and red tape imposed at the state level that they will almost assuredly force the closure of most firearm dealers and prevent prospective owners from opening new ones. This law seeks to create so many department divisions, anti-gun 5-member licensing boards, and licensing fees that dealers will be forced to close through oversight by anti-gun appointees or being priced out of business.

I just sent this to the Peoria Journal Star forum section. Doubt it will see print but had to do it.

More unnecessary jobs coming

Our new governor, JB Pritzger, just signed into law SB337, surrounded by supporters, violence victims (and his armed guards), which will effectively correct nothing. Purported to reduce violence by requiring that gun shops be licensed and certified by the state, it does nothing but increase red tape and unneeded jobs in Illinois and at the same time will reduce productive jobs by driving small mom and pop gun stores out of business. How many of the 2400 shops now in Illinois will survive this change at $1500 a pop for certification plus the added costs of electronic record keeping, surveillance and employee training?

Everything in the bill, other than video surveillance and employee training, is already covered by the Federal firearms licensing laws. Every crime that could be “corrected” by the Illinois law is already a federal crime.

Now we can have a whole new fleet of black Suburbans, driven by political flacks on patronage jobs harassing shop owners over things that are already covered. Worst yet is the fact that the Democrats held this bill, once already vetoed, until a new governor beholden to the top political bosses could take office and sign it. At least Rauner understood some aspects of honor and decency. Kind of like calling a timeout during an extra point attempt, legal but lousy ethics.

I shoot there too sometimes, used to be in there every weekend just about 6 years ago give or take when it was the old place.
