I recently bought a primary arms 1-6 scope. Part of the deal was that I got an optics planet gift card with it, which I used to get a primary arms scope mount. Since I got the mount it’s been nothing but trouble: wouldn’t tighten down on my rifles pic rail, tinkered with it, removed a washer in the mount, which got it to tighten down, but then it shook loose as I was sighting it in.

I’m wondering the following: is there something I’m missing about attaching the scope mount to the rail? In the event my mount is unsalvagable what scope mounts do you recommend for a low power variable optic? Quick detach is a bonus but not necessary. Would like to stay under $100 (the lower the better) since it’s only a $250 scope.

The Burris PEPR mount gets alot of praise under the $100 mark. I had a Rock River Arms Hi-Rise mount that was solid as a rock though a bit heavy/bulky, cost about $60. I currently have the same Primary Arms mount you have but haven't shot it since switching the scope and mount.

Ask OpticsPlanet if they'll take it back. If they will, give the Atibal QR mount a go. If you're feeling up to something a touch more spendy, go with an ADM mount.

If they won't take it back, blue locktite that sucker.

This one? I just picked it up on sale a few weeks ago, heavy but extremely solid and easy as any other 1913 accessory to mount. It was solid through several hundred rounds of 5.56 at the range this weekend. Double check that it has clearance at the rear (closest to charging handle) where it attaches and loosen the bolts so it can hook the opposite side rail.

It’s darn near a copy of the Burris so unless you got a lemon example, it should be fine. I think you simply ran the bolts out (loosened) and instead of pushing them in after (toward opposite side) you left them in position such that the starboard side claw was too narrow to engage the opposite side rail. I think you’ll find you need the washers and a good amount of torque to keep it engaged but it shouldn’t move once set correctly.

After mounting.

The AERO Mount is very good and very light. I have many mounts from Larue on down but for a non QD mount on an AR the AERO mount is very good .

you didn't say 1" or 30mm but the 30mm is about $75. Not they have extended and standard length of your needs. I use the extended for 1-8 Vortex on my pencil barreled carbine. Rock solid and as light as it gets.

Looks like the PA is a 30mm, so :

Follow up question: scope mount vs scope rings? I’m a rifle amateur and this is the first scope I’m ever mounting on a centerfire rifle. I’d like to do it as close to right as I reasonably can.

I have some qd utg rings on my .22 I could use.

Maybe I missed it, but did you use a torque wrench when you mounted it on the rail initially - prior to it coming loose?

Is it possible they came loose because they weren't torqued to spec?

Mount. If you look at the above pics of the mount, you can see the "rings" are pushed forward on the mount. The cantilever design is just easier to mount optics to the rail space limited ar.
