I walked in the pawn shop today and found a cute little pistol I never heard of before! its a astra cub in 22 shorts only and it was really a cool little pistol and I didn't have enough funds to buy it today so I layawayed it so I would have a hold on it until more funds come in! but this little pistol was so cute and cool I couldn't let it get away! so has anyone owned one and or own one now and how'd did you like it??

I had one a number of years ago. I bought it LNIB along with a spare magazine, a small cleaning brush, and the manual. I have long been fascinated by "miniature" guns and how they can be that small and still work. The Astra Cub certainly fit the bill and was not only nicely designed but it was also very well made and finished.

Yes, one was found among my grandfather's stuff when he passed about 35 years ago. In the same class as a FIE 22 or 25. It worked.
Wrong about it being anywhere lie the other cheaper brands you named. The Astra Cubs we're little jewels. Colt Juniors we're actually Astra Cubs because the we're better made than Colt could do anymore for the price. Colt considered them an improvement over the orewar 1908 .25 ! I had a few Cubs in .25 and .22 short and for a tiny gun they are remarkably accurate and reliable. The .22 short model was my favorite and the rare 4 inch Camper model the best. I can't tell you how many State parks I carried one in :) they can roll beer cans at 50 feet no problem

I seem to recall there was a letter code under one of the grip panels. Find the letter (may also be a number too), and then go to www.cruffler.com: go to Departments: Firearm Dates of Manufacture by Serial Number: then click on Astra. This should give you the date code page. I think my code was D1 and was built in 1958.

I had one for a few years in 25 acp. Well finished and I never had a problem with it. I wish I still had it. It was the perfect deep carry back up pocket gun

I have one in .22 Short. It's a ton of fun to shoot, and an absolutely beautiful little gun. Mine was made in 1958, so I got it with my C&R license a couple of years ago. I really need to get another magazine or two.

I had an old Beretta 950 Minx in .22 short, tip up barrel, pre safety. How does the Cub compare to that in size?

The Beretta was nicely made, cute, and reliable, but I figured that cartridge was essentially useless in a self defense gun and sent it on.

Good luck with yours!

I have heard of them and heard good things but never seen one. It sounds like a good find. If you will, what do they cost now?
this one was $190 and at first I thought it was a bit high but after looking at gunbroker.com they are going from $272-415 dollars and so I didn't feel so bad about paying the price i'm having to give for this one! I hope to have this one out this coming month if all comes together money wise!

I had a bunch of Beretta Jetfires back in the day. They were really small, lightweight, and very reliable in .25 ACP. The Astra Cub is all steel with a full slide and is a bit larger and heavier than the Jetfire and Minx (they have aluminum alloy frames and an open top slide).

Had one a while back and it was EXACTLY the same as the Colt model that was it's twin.
Great pistol for its size.
But even with a .22 short H.V. rounds it is a very puny round.
Better than a sharp stick, but not by much.
Carried a Cub for a while and it actually did save my bacon twice = in another life and time.

I’ve got one in .25 and I love it! Sits well in the hand, is very reliable and is a breeze to clean. As others have said it earlier, the Cub is a gem of a pocket pistol!
