The reason I can think of is that the 22", lighter, non-threaded barrel is still a hundred dollars more. The deal is on the shorter, heavy, threaded barrel.

My buddy has a Howa mini action that I overall really like but the magazine release is a deal killer for me if its a field rifle. The latch has a light spring that's a little too easy to release, and sitting at the front of the mag well makes it too easy to bump by accident. He's almost lost his magazine just from carrying the rifle on the shoulder and the release hitting his pack. However a fix should be easy as I've read people have ground the latch down to give it a smaller profile and less leverage (and if I'm not mistaken the latch is polymer so it would be very easy).

Overall they are a fine gun.

How well does the Ruger shoot? I am assuming it is the American Predator.
Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, local ammo has been impossible, and I haven't ordered any online. I put a nikon 2-7x32 scope on it, I'll report back once I burn some ammo through it.

And yes, it is the Predator model.

I parked mine in an MDT LSS chassis, it's one of my favorites. Only caveat is the chassis appears inletted for the Howa HACT trigger, I had to grind on the inside of the chassis just a bit to get it to accept a Timney. A non issue if the HACT trigger is good enough.

I worked up a load with 120 gr Amax and Varget that was good enough where I went out and bought up every box of 120 gr Amax I could get my hands on before Hornady sent them to the graveyard.

Big halal, that's a simple fix. I pulled the latch on both my Mini's and cut off about 1/2 of the length. Haven't had a problem since.

There is an aftermarket bottom metal made by DIPinc. It both fixes the weak plastic bottom metal as well as the magazine latch issue.

From their website: "We redesigned the magazine catch spring perch location to add a noticeable amount of tension to help prevent accidental magazine drops."

I ordered one of these for mine. The stock screws don't hold torque in that plastic trigger guard (creep, a problem with plastic).

I picked up a 762x39 mini this summer. Put it in a LSS-XL. It’s not light in that chassis, but it shoots fantastic.
