Traditional Regional Knives

Italy. Again, no knife stores found in the capital city of Rome nor the touristy Venice. I bought two of these in a tiny hardware store I found off the beaten path in Florence. One is a Maserin and the other from the Scarperia area. The Antonini on the bottom I bought here in the States but wanted to make it feel like part of la familia.

Finally, while I didn't go to Portugal I bought these online because they fell into my Luddite friction folder theme, were cheap, and had what appeared to be a unique locking mechanism. Indeed, it is a sort of half liner-lock made of a short piece of springy steel. I've used the little one a lot and it is a great lightweight cutter good for light tasks. Don't know if these are representative of traditional knives from Portugal but the maker has been in business since 1870 so close enough.

I almost forgot some Svords from New Zealand. Never been there but love the Svords. Only one has a wooden handle. The others are plastic and the tiny useless one is brass. I bought these a few years ago before my Ludditedness set in. The wood scales were a little rough when I got it. I sanded them down, stained it, and rubbed melted candle wax into them to waterproof them. Seemed to work out fine and looks nice.
