Another road kill in the freezer

Thursday evening I was headed home from the gym, going down a backroad just about 1.5 miles from the house. I was taking it slow, because the rut is just kicking in here and I occasionally see deer on this road. A good distance ahead, I see a spike buck in the road. I slowed down to a crawl, and he ran in the woods. I go ahead and continue down the road, but this deer had second thoughts and came out of the woods wide open and kamikazi'd straight into the passenger door of my jeep, committing suicide and converting himself from a spike to an antlerless buck. Now I have 2 dents in my door. Called FWC from right there, and they told me I could keep him. I figured, why not- no meat damage on this one. I just drove home, got the truck, and loaded him up. The real hoot is that I froze my butt off all morning hunting and got skunked, also this is the second deer I hit with my jeep this year. The good news is that I wasn't riding my motorcycle and I have the doors on my jeep since its winter.

This is the second with the jeep- also got one with x bow, 1 with black powder, 1 with modern rifle. So 5 this year.

You could come down here and hunt. Just drive around at night.

Chrysler screwed up after that bailout and sold me my '09 with an unlimited drivetrain warranty. The only way I'm getting rid of it is by totalling it- like getting hit by a train or something and surviving.

Look what it did to my door. You can definitely tell it was a spike.

In 65+ years on the family ranch, the only deer my Grandparents ever hit was a suicidal doe that crumpled in the passenger side rear door on their old Caprice.

Nice you got to keep it since it wasn’t too damaged, it seems like all I ever see are scavenger bait carcasses cooking on the side of the road.

It just makes sense to keep them vs letting them go to waste, or at least drag them off the shoulder into the woods so something will eat it faster, if they are too messed up. I wouldn't want to be the guys from the county that get stuck policing them up- by the time they get there it has probably been rotting for a few days. When I was in Tn, the highway patrol had a guy they would call after deer collisions in the area that would come out and get them and take them to the Nashville zoo to feed the tigers.
