Thursday evening I was headed home from the gym, going down a backroad just about 1.5 miles from the house. I was taking it slow, because the rut is just kicking in here and I occasionally see deer on this road. A good distance ahead, I see a spike buck in the road. I slowed down to a crawl, and he ran in the woods. I go ahead and continue down the road, but this deer had second thoughts and came out of the woods wide open and kamikazi'd straight into the passenger door of my jeep, committing suicide and converting himself from a spike to an antlerless buck. Now I have 2 dents in my door. Called FWC from right there, and they told me I could keep him. I figured, why not- no meat damage on this one. I just drove home, got the truck, and loaded him up. The real hoot is that I froze my butt off all morning hunting and got skunked, also this is the second deer I hit with my jeep this year. The good news is that I wasn't riding my motorcycle and I have the doors on my jeep since its winter.

Well at least you'll have meat in the freezer! And it's a Jeep you don't need doors!

Years ago my dad was adding home from hunting on opening day of rifle . Like yourself didn't get nothing. He was going through a residential area in his VW golf ( TDI was getting 45mpg) and a deer came out of no where. Hits it and it goes to the hood and along the roof. IIRC it was like 4500 bucks in damage. Still a joke to this day ," well atleast you got your deer on opening day".

Two deer with a jeep, and zero with the fire-stick...., I'm thinking since I will be buying a car in the next couple of years maybe I need to buy a jeep?

LD
This is the second with the jeep- also got one with x bow, 1 with black powder, 1 with modern rifle. So 5 this year.

Passed a road kill in Texas that was swarmed with about 50 vultures. About three deer on that road. Looked like the old Hitchcock movie.

Hauled plenty of deer out of some rough areas, w CJ, XJ or ZJ.
Liked my CJ5's for being nimble in the woods.
But man oh man, the ZJ has a heater........and coil springs.
The ol '94 did a great job, but rusted away. Yanked the wheels/tired and sent to the scrapyard at 271K.
Got a '98 to lift now (last of that body style).
WJ ('04) was last of solid front axle GC...........friggin' hated the ol lady's.
Something about the windshield...made me ill to drive it.

Bonked a 6 pointer with that Jeep, tried to miss him, folded hitch haul clocked him.
Hopefully learned his lesson.
Only other deer hit w vehicle, full size Blazer at 80 MPH at night.Drove it home but needed some work LOL

I happen to know from experience, they taste just as good when they're hit by an auto as they do when you shoot them.
Autos tend to ruin more meat though. Not in your case however.

Ouch! That won’t buff out!

In 65+ years on the family ranch, the only deer my Grandparents ever hit was a suicidal doe that crumpled in the passenger side rear door on their old Caprice.

Nice you got to keep it since it wasn’t too damaged, it seems like all I ever see are scavenger bait carcasses cooking on the side of the road.

Drive safe.

It just makes sense to keep them vs letting them go to waste, or at least drag them off the shoulder into the woods so something will eat it faster, if they are too messed up. I wouldn't want to be the guys from the county that get stuck policing them up- by the time they get there it has probably been rotting for a few days. When I was in Tn, the highway patrol had a guy they would call after deer collisions in the area that would come out and get them and take them to the Nashville zoo to feed the tigers.

CJ8 was my dads “four wheeler”. The Scrambler. It loved scrambling around the average very slowly and loudly. He rammed around the property with that tin can doing all kinds of property maintenance and it took us to our deer stands when we hunted and hauled game back when we succeeded. Didn’t drive it on the road much. It was an ‘84 I think and this was the nineties and MI salt had killed it.

He is restoring it now that they have unbelievable collector value. Won’t mention what we did to the FJ40.

Last deer I got with a vehicle was over 20 years ago. A small buck in velvet that came flying out of a hedgerow between two fields and into the left front corner of my truck. Got a tag for it from the sheriff and gave it to a guy who needed meat and a local taxidermist got the head and cape and did an award winning mount of a small buck reaching up into an apple tree for an apple; complete with branch with fake apple on it. No meat wasted and an award winning mount...... All from one road killed deer.

That sounds like the kind of nontypical mount that I like... not quite jackalopes and phukars, but not just another shoulder mount.

OP; I braked for a four pointer who easily cleared my bumper, 1980 Mercedes 300 TD; only to 180 and butt my quarter panel prongs first... no breakage on his part that I saw, but 2x2 dents in my Benz. 700$ quote to fix it.

Needless to say, that car wore those marks for eight years, til I sold it.
