Picked up some LC 18 308 brass so I switched the SS over to large primer for the first time ever. I have it adjusted so its swaging the primer pockets just right but I'm getting primer pockets sticking to the swage rod which I have to then fight the case and rod to get the case loose. I can see the case moving back and forth when I work the handle so I'm sure its the primer pocket that's stuck. Tried a little lube on the pocket swage area but nothing changed. Should I polish the part that goes into the pocket or is there another fix?

Have you tried to prime any of the brass you have processed? Wondering if you are swaging too much? You said it was it was ok, on the primer pockets. Just a guess, as I have done 1000's on mine, with mainly LC brass, and I haven't have that problem. It's been a few years, but I don't remember having to polish the rod, on mine, when I started.

Yep I have primed some brass and the priming feels right, if I back the rod off 1/4 turn the primers go in hard and get flattened a little. It seems I'm right on the edge just enough swaging.

I've experienced a similar situation with mil brass. Try to "tap" forward the little piece of the locator rod flipper that sticks up and that will push the shell locator rod and brass down slightly, then raise the rod up and remove the swaged case. I find that that usually breaks the contact between case and swage rod.

did you readjust the spring (can't remember what it is called) that aligns brass when you switched to large ?

I tried backing off the swage rod a little at a time and priming the case until I was squashing the primers due to not enough swage and the primer pocket was still sticking to the rod. I polished the end of the swage rod and the pockets are still sticking so I don't know. I have to push on the black metal deal that the swage rod runs through while raising the handle to get the case to come off the swage rod and sometimes its a push to get the case loose. I might try shimming behind the black deal so it stays out a little further so it pops the brass loose on its own.

I'll mess with the alignment block deal tonight and see if that does anything. Need to prep some more brass since I used the 100 pieces I had prepped messing around with the swager already.

I sure like the looks of the Hornady swager kit for the LnL press but I don't do enough to justify spending the $. I purchased 500 pieces of this Mil brass but won't be purchasing anymore due to the hassle of removing the tar stuff from the case necks. Never had a problem swaging 223 brass with the SS and at this point I have enough 223 brass prepped up that I hardly use the swager. If I get a piece or two of mil brass most of the time I just cut the primer crimp out with the RCBS cutter.

Call Dillon. I've never had an issue that wasn't quickly and easily resolved. I've also never waited on hold or call waiting for more than a very short time and I've never had anyone answer that couldn't handle my questions or had to be transferred.

If you return the handle all the way, the swage rod will pull back behind the steel back-up plate, popping any stuck case off the rod. Should be no way for a case to stick to it at that point, unless you forgot to reinstall it when swapping swage rods.

FWIW the adjustable rod is the locator rod (goes inside the case to back up the force from the swage rod), the swage is on the eccentric end.
