So, after putting a bunch of rounds through my fixed mag ar in 5.56, I've come to the conclusion I need a detachable mag ar in 6.5 grendel because why not!!?? No seriously I'm a little addicted to building and tinkering

So the other night I ordered a very cheap upper/matched rail around $100(its NY first build I don't want to go high end) rise armament ambi charging handle, strike industries enhanced dust cover a stainless gas block, tube and I'll be ordering a matched PSA 6.5 grendel and nickel boron bcg to complete my upper

I also ordered a new hera cqr, an enhanced lower parts kit from strike industries minus trigger group, I'll probably be ordering a jb lighter spring kit and PSA polished fcg as well my lower is most likely going to be an aero precision or possibly a more affordable noreen, everything I've read has said the difference in cost vs quality is minimal as long as its mil spec itll be fine in most cases. My scope is going to be a 3-9x40 bushnell AR optic, and my 5.56 16" freedom upper is getting a vortex strike fire II I bought used for $80 any suggestions on my new build or parts I should change out guys?

What was the serious issue? Building a second AR is no cause for distress, there was a recent thread where most posters kept up in multiples of 5. Parts list looks good if it will meet your needs/wants. That's the great thing about these guns, everyone can build what suits their budget and use.

I agree with Zgunner. The only issue is this is addictive.

Enjoy and soon you’ll learn why they call these “adult Legos”

Let us know how you like the Hera stock. I REALLY want one but the online reviews arent great......

I also do not see what the serious issue is.

I built my first AR in 2016 and I had never even shot one. I did it mainly as a political protest against HRH.

In 2017 I built my second AR using a Anderson lower ($45) and PSA Freedom rifle build kit ($350). I wanted to see how good (or bad) of a AR I could get on a budget. I am extremely pleased with how accurate this rifle is.

In 2018 I acquired all of parts for what I am calling my Mission First Tactical Lighter Weight build. I am using a MFT Handguard, Grip and Buttstock and a 16" pencil barrel with .625" gas block. My wife doesn't like how heavy my other two are so I am building this one for her use (I hope).

My 2019 build is the Purple People Eater. I have most of the parts. Once I get the Lower, Upper and Handguard Ceracoated it will be ready to build.

You may notice that I have not built the 2018 MFT and am not in a hurry to build 2019 Purple People Eater. Well you see it is like this. Building and shooting AR's has become a addiction for me. :what: Like all addicts I want to share it with others. :neener: So when my out-of-state kids visit me later this year they are going to get to experience building them. :D

Of course the risk is they will probably each want one and since I can only shoot one at a time...

Of course since that will free up room for more AR's...

One word of advice is avoid reading GunnyUSMC posts. He is a enabler. Don't get me wrong, He is a really nice guy and very helpful. He just, well, likes to help feed our addictions. :p

p.s. Fortunately I have not discussed with Gunny what type of AR I should build using the stripped AR Lower I brought in last October as another political protest against the Democrats. o_O

p.s.s. I am glad there is not another election until 2020. Political protesting can be expensive.

At first I thought 3 was an admirable number to have. Then maybe a dozen would be a nice number to achieve. I won't say how many, and it has slowed down (some), but I am always planning my next build..;)

And unless Gunny has gifted a few more of his he still has me beat...

Psa had stripped lowers for 49.95 and complete lowers for 129.ight think about those.

So I was thinking about the stripped lowers but from what I've read they don't have a bolt catch, and at 49.99 + a 30.00 ffl fee that $5.00 more than an aero? They also don't have any nys compliant stocks unfortunately

How much is that areo upper. You will still have the transfer fee and the cheapest I've seen areo lowers for is 69.00 there are still complete lowers at psa with the ept fcg at notuch more. It will give you extra springs in case something fails or you could sell extra parts to mitigate some of the other expenses.

So my local shop sells aero lowers for 69.00 out the door, he has them in stock is the primary reason, and I have an oops kit from my original build is what I figured on so why not? Many of the people I've spoke to about the cqr seem to like it more than the god awful thorsden stocks as well, with my hand after severing it a near pistol grip is damn near mandatory due to loss of some motor skills. I have no issues with PSA by any means but no body around here stocks them.

I see there's no fee for in stock merchandise. My local store stocks Anderson anything else is special order and subject to a 40.00 fee. Just drove to Norwich NY to mayhoods.
It's about 45 miles north of me they will order what I want with no fee, but can only get there on Sunday's due to work hours.

I buy my lowers from a local brick and mortar store. Anderson's and they have all been great. I order everything else from PSA. Total cost for my last build was about $375.00. That was a 16 inch with mid length gas and A2 sights. It's a dang fine shooter for the money.

that's what I'm looking for. I typically deal with thousand islands armory in lafargeville ny when I go to see my family on the way back from lake placid, he seems to be a great guy. I'm looking forward to this spring and actually go do some warm weather shooting

what part of ny are you in? and what are doing about the flash hider/brake

Lake placid, and Itll be a pinned and welded break[/QUOT
before you weld the pin in, peen the thread over round the pin. i you don't when you weld it up the pin will rise up. i use cheap brill bits and just cut off the shank for the pin. i leave a little bugger weld on just to show its welded. if you have a lathe, i make the thread protector from the cheap A2 bird cage, only takes a few minutes to make.

So today I went ahead and ordered my barrel and bcg, PSA had 20 inch 224 valkyrie heavy barrels with bcg for only 149.00 shipped I figure that it will do me just fine for my build.
Show us pics and give range report when it's finished. Congrats on your new build.

Don't listen to what those guys say about me. I only have a few guns, maybe one or two ARs, if that many.;) Now it is true that I have given away a part are two, but they were just extra parts sitting in my shop.
I will say, pass on the PSA polished FCG. Spend a little more money and you will be much happier. Take a look at the AGL A.C.T. and the Hiper Fire FCG's.
