On the fence about buying this

JMO - I would say you would need to live to be better than 100 for either of those guns to reach a'collector' value, unless of course they are outlawed altogether. Thankfully at my age I dont have to concern myself with such things. The lock?? :(, but for the difference go with the newer gun. Again, JMO. :)

I would go with offering $650 up to $700 on the older used Model 29. Couldn't see myself spending $850 on a new "Classic" version when this is the real deal.

Like everything else that goes on here, please keep us updated as to which one you decide to go with.

After giving it a lot of thought I decided to pass on it. I just couldn't (wouldn't) pay the asking price and he wouldn't take anything less. No hard feelings and life goes on. I handled the 4" Model 29 "Classic" and was kind of o_O about it. Grips didn't feel right (that's an easy fix) so I'm putting that on the back burner for now.
Thanks to everyone for their input. Next month I'm going on one of my semi annual trips to my family property in deep SW Texas near the big town of Valentine. 1300 mile round trip and along the way I usually stop at three or four firearm stores and on the way back stop at a couple more. I'm optimistic as to what the future will bring.
