Fired worker, 45, uses a pistol with a laser sight - will laser sights be the next bumpstock?

I saw one of the off the rails leftist networks at work as it happened and believe I heard them say something to the effect of "another middle-aged white male snapped" I don't know if that was the talking head or the guest.
The report had just came in and it wasn't even known if there had been any fatalities at that point and they were already making assumptions.
 
They don't have the votes for something that stupid.

I had heard at one time that Illinois (or Chiraq) banned laser sights, but I heard it from my mother in Chiraq which makes it of dubious reliability.

According to handgunlaw.us, laser sights are illegal in Chicago, Cicero, and Thornton. There's supposed to be state preemption which will do away with that, but no legal case has made it happen yet.

Don’t need votes anymore. The current administration changed the game on gun control by executive order.

To OPs question, I don’t think lasers are next. My money is on braces, then so-called large cap mags, then semi-autos. I don’t think it’s out of the question that some of that happens under this administration.

It’s irresponsible for media to speculate. That said, if one had to guess in some strange hypothetical, the odds would go that direction.
 
If they go after lasers, they have to go after scopes and reflex sights. All aid in a shooter’s ability to acquire their target at an increased distance.

They might do so regardless of there being be any racial element to the story they want to highlight or diminish. It is quite possible that the company had a poor termination policy as well....there are many strategies grounded in good practice for letting people go without setting them off. I'm sure it will come out whether they were followed here. And also...haven't heard anything regarding the security set up and the factory either----whether or not entry is controlled or not. Haven't heard yet whether the shooter had a valid FOID card (Sun-Times reports he was convicted of stabbing a woman in Miss. in 1994). I'd be curious. It's been reported that he retrieved the pistol from his car after being fired---so I could see a movement at encroaching on the parking lot "safe harbor" provision for guns in Illinois. I guess we'll see what Monday brings...I know the anti RKBA crowd in Springfield will view this as a green light to move quickly.

I agree on the so called "braces". Like bump stocks they are just a way around a law already on the books. Hi-cap mags have already been banned once and have always been under fire. I doubt if anything goes down it will not affect pistols like doublestacks, where hi-capacity is standard....similar to the way tube feed rifles were allowed before. Semi-autos won't ever be gone, not in this country and not as long as we live.

Regardless of what the companies termination policy is it doesn't give anyone the right to kill people. People are fired or laid off everyday without things getting violent. I should have added to this sentence 'They(media) had the script ready just waiting for another mass shooting committed by another white shooter. They run Breaking News with those events for weeks. But if the shooter is non white maybe several days. We'll just have to wait and see.
 
He looks like a big dude. Could have killed more than 5 with a bat in a gun free zone, assuming the warehouse was, and most are. The color of a victim or perpetrator should never make the news. If I as a white male mention color I'm a racist, but they constantly throw race out there to fit their narrative. In this case it made no difference when he was assumed white, nor now that we know otherwise. He snapped. Doesn't matter what color. It's sad when as a group, people think...I'm glad he wasn't white. Or I'm glad he ran over or stabbed or bombed them people instead of shooting then. It's a very sad state of affairs.
I have tried lasers, I still have a couple including a lasermax internal. I don't feel like there are many situations that they benefit me. To think that they played any role in this situation is a hell of a stretch of the imagination.
And no, votes are no longer needed. Trump set a dangerous precedent with banning privately owned things (and with no compensation or grandfathering to be even worse.) No doubt others will follow suit eventually if the court doesn't intervene. No matter how you feel about a wall, guns, or any other politics, you have to worry when a president, any president, is allowed to go unchecked by finding loopholes. Our check and balance system is being exploited as bad as ever in recent history. Most presidents sign more executive orders, but nearly all are for show with no real impact. Declaring emergencies and signing executive orders, in my opinion, was never put in their playbook to circumvent the system.

Even when it's exploited in your favor it should still be frowned upon. People are quick to applaud when it's in their favor. That's a foolish thing. Eventually it won't be. What if the Clinton era ban had came after this new precedent that Trump has set? Would it have made it to court in time to be nullified? What about when the court swings farther left. If Hillary had won, it would be there already with her two appointees (and Mrs Ginsberg likely would have retired and been replaced with a much younger, more liberal version as well) Reminds me of the "butterfly effect". All these changes could have made massive impacts. (God-awful movie though. Lol )

It is just a matter of time before they come after anything gun related and all guns so they can rule over us without fear of the people fighting back. Look at history and you can see this. But we bring this on ourselves because we keep voting in the same people over and over again. Politicians on both sides and at all levels of government (local to federal) is the problem.
 
I think they just hate each other. (And one side hates wealthy white people...so long as they aren't actors... in which case they are ok.....so long as they aren't christian....in which case they aren't ok again. Very confusing these days.) I dont think that they are worrying about anyone fighting back or anything. I doubt they think about next week let alone any of that. I doubt enough people in Congress are that smart anymore (a few are I agree) . On either side. It's devolved to the point that both sides are so full of hate that if a Democrat found a cure for cancer the Republicans would do anything in their power to stop it. And vice versa. Votes are almost perfectly split by party. One can campaign that they won't let it rain during daytime hours and people would elect them. It's no longer about "future generations" it's about haha my team wins. Disrespecting the offices. Silly Name calling by the president, sarcastic clapping and ignoring (and making a blatant point of it and laughing about it with celebrities) the state of the union by the speaker.... There is more maturity in a middle school locker room than in Washington.

We are more well armed than ever. Does it appear that they are worried about anyone "fighting back". I honestly believe that their entire world , both sides, exists in politics. We the people are not even thought about. They begrudgingly interact with the deplorables during election times. Then live to harrass the other side their entire lives.

And we are electing new people. Hell the president of the United states wasn't even a politician. Waitresses etc are getting elected. It's not that we just need new people. We need BETTER new people. If we cant trust a draft dodging, greedy, tycoon to uphold the constitution.... who can ya trust.
( I know we had little option otherwise. I was all for putting names in a hat for president by the time I voted....for Trump btw) Mickey mouse gets a few hundred votes every year. He isnt looking so bad nowdays.

All my opinion though. Ive been wrong before

This incident will not be used as justification to do anything. Bad guy was black. He used a pistol and not a black and scary AR-15. It happened in a gun free zone. At first the media was celebrating another mass shooting. But then details started coming out and this is becoming quickly forgotten. It takes a bunch of kids getting shot in a school by a white guy with a scary black rifle to bring true happiness to the gun control freaks.

There's no "right" either to enter the United States illegally or to stay here illegally.

In any case, a national magazine ban is going to be ignored... massively.
