25-20 Thanx, it has a 1:16 twist rate as best I can measure. That was one of the first red flags for me to start questioning.

Slam Fire, Nice group at 200 yards. Anyone have a recommendation on bullet molds for 32 Special ? Not having any luck on Gunbroker. I see a lot of molds for 32-20 but no 170gr. 32 Specials.

It sounds like you need to do a chamber cast. I can put all types of empty shells into my 30-30... doesn’t mean anything.

Magma Engineering has a mold, I think I'll go that route since I manufacture bullets anyway and their molds fit my casting machines. This way I can add a new caliber to my line up after I've made a few. Oh, and the mold will be tax deductible !!!

Well it appears as though there is not one round of 32 Special to be found in my entire home town. Guess I have no choice but to order molds and reload now. Gonna take a little longer, but I'll let you know what happens.
As the owner of a 94 in 32 Special I can tell you that the ammo tends to be a seasonal run sort of thing so if you see it buy it. Winchester and Remington still make it.

When I lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan, the mom and pop stores and gas stations had 32 SPL, but all the big box stores did not.

Wal-Mart doesn't have it, and BOTH local gunstores don't carry it here. Huge gunshow in about 2 weeks. Maybe I can get a box there. And reloading dies too. BFH_AUTO, I'm guessing the big box stores didn't carry it because they are chains and their inventory is usually dictated to them by some office jockey across the country with no feel for the local environment. When I lived in Arizona, you could rarely find a heater at Wal-Mart even though it was zero degrees in Flagstaff.

I would say you are correct. The 32 is a great round for iron sights.

Hornady makes the .32 LeverRevolution ammo with the 165 grain FTX bullet. A tad pricy but in my 94's (.30-30) it works really well. Flattens the trajectory a bit and makes it a easier to hit where you want it to at 150 yards than the old flatpoint/round nose ammo.

Stay safe!

That was my thought was to get one box to confirm caliber, even though I'm pretty certain what it is. After this I figure I'll get the dies and brass and reload like I do every other shooter I own. I might be takin you up on yer offer BobinOregon. Thanx.

BobinOregon, thanx for the offer. Just got a box to confirm for sure this is a 32 Special. I'll get it to the range tomorrow. You said something about cast bullets ? I've read now that 32 spec. was originally intended for cast bullets. You know any recommended loads ? I'll have an update this weekend for the confirmation ya'll. Can't wait to get to the range.

Confirmation at last !!! I reckon this is no doubt a 32 Special. This is 3 shots, off hand, about 25 yards. Looks like I'll need to adjust the front sight slightly. Thanx so much to everyone for all the help. I'm going to get on the Trap Door now. It's looking a lot like it may actually be a 43 Spanish. Anyone know where to get brass if that's the case ? zzz.jpg

Thanks for the update, and congratulations; you have quite a unique firearm there! Sure would be interesting to know why the barrel is mis-marked.

Pretty sure it's not a re-bore. Looks like it hasn't had 2 boxes of ammo thru it. Made in the 80's. I figure the first owner couldn't hit anything with it and that's why I ended up with it cheap. Anybody's guess why it's mis 30-30 (2).jpg MODEL 94 TRAPPER.jpg marked. They made the trapper in 32 cal. too. Probably side by side in the factory. Probably had something to do with Friday afternoon getting to lunch early here put this barrel back in the parts bin over there. Doesn't show any signs of re-bore. Here are some pics again.

I am glad to see the mystery has been solved. I suggest you think of a clever, artistic way to mark the true caliber on the rifle somewhere. I am sure you will hang on to it for a long time to come, but marking it cleverly would add to the mojo of the rifle. One easy way would be to take off the rear sight and stamp the base 32 Winchester.
