Cheapest gun you've ever bought

Prior to Y2K I convinced myself I needed a rifle, only had $100. for gun and ammo. LGS was selling Enfields for $68.00 so I got one and as much ammo as I could get for the balance of the $100.

A CBC single-shot shotgun, bought new at K-mart, many years ago for $28. It remains unfired. Several years ago, I checked on it's worth, which was stated as "In like new condition-$58." Wow, it had increased in value over 100%

Still waiting for one of those gun buyback programs that promote $200 for a long gun.

March 1995........ LGS took in several guns on a trade-in deal. One of which was a Raven model P-25 in 25 ACP. Shop owner didn't want to put that Raven on display, as he stated; "I don't stock junk; you want it?; gimme 25 bucks". ...... So I did. Still own it but it's kept mostly because you don't see those things around anymore and there are younger guys around who have heard of them but never seen one in person. Wow;.... I'm getting old. I bought an old marlin bolt action 22 in 2001 for $40, and a lorcin 380 for $40. Both were sold for a profit, I got $80 for the lorcin because I proved it would work! I have a single shot Stevens 12 ga that I bought last year for $75. That was a deal since the bluing is like new...

That would be "Little Bertha",,,
Back in 1964-5-ish I bought her at a garage sale for a $5.00 bill

sns-l.jpg

She was like new back then,,,
She came with a box of .22 shorts with 6 missing.

I'm assuming the gun was fired only 6 times.

The front sight fell off before the box was empty,,,
It quit advancing the cylinder after a few more boxes.

Cheapest, not given to me, was probably my first Krag 30-40. All original except for the scope mount and Lyman All-American. Paid just under $125 out the door. Another that sticks in my mind is one I won on a raffle - $400 for a Daniel Defense DDM4v7 NRA Gun of the Year.
Dang! you just reminded me of a Beretta A300 I won in a raffle held by a small town bar in SD. (Didn't have a single stop light in town but did have 2 bars!) I had noticed the sign about the raffle and asked what it was for and how much. For playground equipment for the elementary school and $20. I said I would donate $20. I got a call a few months later that I had won it! So I guess $20 is the least I have paid for gun.

I've bought quite a few guns since 2008 when I first started buying guns (I inherited the other guns in my collection). I think the cheapest I've spent on a gun is around $200 or so? I was in a gun shop that I frequented and I really wanted an AK type of rifle but they were all so expensive. The salesman pulled a rifle off the rack and said he'd knock like $50 off the listed prices. It was an SKS with an aftermarket, collapsable, synthetic stock. Nothing particularly great about this SKS, it's Chinese. But after looking at the rifle for a while I said sure. That was circa 2010 when guns were crazy expensive...

Other than inherited, $25 Lorcin chrome .22. Will shoot but won't eject and gunsmith says it would cost more to fix than the gun is worth.

Two guns I bought while in the Ohio National Guard, Stevens Mod 520 12ga riot gun for $40 and a S&W Victory 38sp for $60.
Thanks Uncle Sam.

When I got my Mosin 91/30 couple years ago, they sold for $125 including cleaning kit and bayonet. I saw some rusty, bottom of the barrel specimens at Cabela's for more than $300.

Cheapest for me was $120 Mossberg 500 cruiser from estate sale. After new longer barrel, shorter magazine tube, Hogue stock and forearm I'm not sure it was such a great deal anymore.

Back in the fifties I paid $11 for a Carcano with a scope.
I tossed the scope-cut down the barrel about 6 " - installed fixed sights. It wasn't a bad shooter except it had a chip in the bolt which caused loading problems unless you were quick with the bolt. I reblued the gun with a Wards $10 hot bluing kit. Still looks good today. Too bad the guberment made them take it off the market.

About 1980 I bought a .32 Savage auto sans grips or magazine for $10. Spent about the same for a magazine from Numrich and shot it(without grips) before trading it off on a Rem 760 that I bought for my Dad.

IMG_1611.JPG As long as we're including raffle guns; here's the Ruger Mod 77 target rifle in .25-06 that I won in a gun raffle in 1997. Which is why I call it my "lucky gun". Had a Burris scope on it when I won it, which got replaced with the 6-18x Leupold in the picture. Bought $5. worth of raffle tickets, IIRC, and a few weeks later got a phone call congratulating me on being the lucky winner. Actually this wouldn't be my cheapest gun if you were to figure all the money I've spent on gun raffle tickets over the last 40 plus years and this is the only thing I have to show for it, lol.

Posted one before, but forgot another great deal I got. Mark 4 Enfield someone bubbaed into a fake jungle carbine for 40 bucks at a gun show in SLC back in 92. Okay shooter, one of the few guns I bought I made money on when I sold it for 150 a year later.

Piece of crap Taurus .38 M68 revolver in 1983 or so for $60 I think I have documented it's failures (and it's subsequent demise) here before.
Marlin M60, bought in 1982 for $75, still have it.
Wards Western Field psuedo Rem 1100 back in 1990 or so, $75. Shot my first ever round of trap with it, and it made me look good. Should have kept it, traded it for a lawn mower. Guy I traded it to still has it, still runs just fine.
Some kind of 16 gauge sxs, probably a Stevens of some sort, $75. Took it home, re-blued it, repaired and refinished the stock. Bought a case of ammo Never fired it. (Guess I'm really not much of a shotgun guy) Still have it..
